I would like to get a guitar tone similar to what Dave Mustaine used on Symphony of Destruction. I have a Katana 50. I am not very familiar with the Boss Tone Studio software and am struggling to get a tone I like.

Andrés Segovia once said the guitar is like a small orchestra, containing all kinds of different instruments in only six strings. And as classical guitarists we often spend countless hours of practice trying to bring out each of those different instruments in our playing. The result can offer that magical sound of multiple instruments playing at once on just one instrument.

However, an often overlooked aspect of the classical guitar is the experience of playing music with others. There is a wide world of ensemble music for our instrument in all kinds of different instrument and vocal combinations. And the grandest form of ensemble music on classical guitar is the guitar concerto.

The only one heard by people other than serious guitar fans or students is Aranjuez. The others take a lot more listening and study to appreciate. The slow movement from Aranjuez got famous in the 60s from a car commercial but it is haunting and beautiful.

On a side note, Marty Friedman has a couple chapters in Practice Ultimate, and also did a fantastic CtC interview. He has been living and working in Japan for years. I wonder if @Troy might persuade Marty to pull some strings at Young Guitar to release all of the lessons in Practice Ultimate as a streaming/downloadable video collection. Long shot probably, but it would be a shame for this material to sit in an archive forever, instead of being a mighty document of guitar instruction history.

I really want to find something similar to the savage tone I found in the exchange, but distant enough to act as a good blending tone. I've found some good Bogner and Mesa profiles that seem to blend well, but (like everyone else who plays guitar and searches for tone endlessly) I want to do some more experimenting. For that reason, I figured I'd try and move towards Romeo's tone because I've always been boggled by its clarity.

This versatile guitar sports a very popular body style that will supply ample response and volume and reacts to light strumming and balanced fingerpicking that I'm sure will impress you. If you are looking for a great all-purpose guitar, this one will fill the bill.

This plan features our newest bracing pattern. The V Brace. This is a completely different patterns as compared to the standard X-Brace pattern that has been around since C.F. Martin introduced it on their Dreadnought series of guitars in the 1920's. The V-Brace balances the tone better and drives the sound toward the soundhole much more directly. Also the top will vibrate more freely due to the fact the only brace tied to the sides is the lateral brace.

Glenn was initially skeptical of this 100 guitar format. He assumed it would be too muddy sounding to write a piece of too much complexity, so he approached it the same way he would have one of his nine guitar pieces. However once he heard it, he realized the parts were a lot clearer and more transparent than he thought they would be.

Does a decent one exist. I did find one but not sure the pen input extends to tab. Does Staffpad have this feature? If so can it be used for a pop song structure. Drums, bass, guitar etc. Or is it orchestral only? (edit, that's a nope on Staffpad).

I mentioned in the introduction to this column that it was my goal to talk about certain topics that rarely get mentioned on guitar related sites, or for that matter any site that is out there. This will be the first such column that I write for this site, which essentially deals with one or more works by a composer, and deals with an application of a topic that is not common to most guitar players or at least is an expansion on certain things guitar players might have heard about but never understood or saw applied.

As his first all-instrumental album, Vallín enlisted the help of the Prague Symphony Orchestra to back up a seven-track set that includes collaborations with a range of guitarists from Carlos Santana on Desnudo, to Steve Vai on the title track.

Microsinfonías pays homage not just to guitars, but to instruments from all families. From fiddling with structure, dynamics, keys, time signatures, cadences, tempo, articulation and more, instruments have the power to unlock a unique set of emotions.

A Taylor original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the Taylor acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum.
If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice.

I read somewhere that there was a classical guitar player on the Symphony that some folks really enjoyed. Does anyone know that performer's name? A couple of years ago, we immensely enjoyed a Polish performer whose name is Wojtek Kozikowski. He played Classical Guitar on one of the RCL ships and we thought he was great. Just wondered if there was any chance it was going to be him on the Symphony?

We sailed Harmony in Dec. 2018 over Christmas a few months ago. We saw a jazz band almost every night in the jazz lounge. My husband (bass guitarist) was completely enamored by the jazz band on Harmony. While my husband isn't a professional bassist, he knows his music really well and can play well too. He was in awe of the band, specifically the pianist. They were all from Italy. The pianist was super young; somewhere in his 20s. This kid was an anomaly for the music industry. He was just *that good.* I don't know how long he will continue playing on the ship, but if you like this sort of stuff and can appreciate jazz, I strongly suggest seeing him on this ship (unless he moves to another ship). They were super friendly, but the young one was something else, speaking from a talent perspective.

I would agree that the guitar player in Central Park is what the OP is probably referring to, but the Polish performer Wojtek Kozikowski performed several sets on various days in the Schooner Bar on Freedom during our cruise earlier this month. He was excellent and if you have a chance to attend one of his shows, do not miss.

Michael James Romeo (born March 6, 1968) is an American musician, best known as the guitarist and founding member of the progressive metal group Symphony X. He is one of two members to appear on every Symphony X release (the other being Michael Pinnella).

Romeo was ranked #91 out of 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time by Guitar World,[3] and has influenced a number of younger players, including DragonForce's Herman Li, who listed Romeo among his favorite guitarists in 2011.[4]

Upon hearing his first Kiss album, Romeo purchased a cheap acoustic guitar at a garage sale and began practicing.[5] He became serious about the guitar around the age of 12, after listening to the albums Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman by Ozzy Osbourne, and would subsequently be heavily influenced by the neoclassical technique and style of Randy Rhoads.[5] In a 2022 interview with Sea of Tranquility, Romeo would recall practicing daily at that point in his life, by playing along to the Ozzy Osbourne albums and others.[7]

Romeo's first serious guitar was a white Kramer Pacer, and he has also used Fender Stratocasters.[7] Romeo began his career with Symphony X using ESP M-II Deluxe guitars with EMG Active pickups, and later switching to the DiMarzio Tone Zone and X2N pickups.[9] In 2005, Romeo was introduced to Caparison by Henrik Danhage of Evergrey.[10] Caparison developed a custom model Dellinger Prominence-MJR,[11] which Romeo has since used as his primary guitar. The guitar was used to record the 2007 Symphony X album Paradise Lost, and all subsequent releases from the band.[12] Romeo has also played a Dellinger Prominence 7, which can be heard on War of the Worlds, Pt. 2.[7]

In 1995, Long Island Records of Germany released the self-titled debut Phantom's Opera album featuring Romeo on lead guitar, Colie Brice on vocals, Bob Nelson on drums, Eric Walz on bass, and founding member Jack Young on keyboard and piano.[15] The album was reissued with bonus tracks by Rewind in the US in 1999.[15]

In 2005, Romeo provided guitar, bass and orchestration for eight songs from Symphony X bandmate Russell Allen's solo debut, Atomic Soul. Romeo also recorded and served as engineer on the record. The same year, Romeo provided orchestration work on three songs of Steve Walsh's solo album Shadowman,[20] and on all songs from The Bronx Casket Co.'s Hellectric. Romeo would work with The Bronx Casket Co. again in 2011, providing lead guitar work on Antihero.
