Request: Please participate in 2025-26 S-CCATE National Validation Study

Center for Educational Improvement
The Center for Educational Improvement, in collaboration with TeachLink and Learning Forward, is requesting educators take part in the updated School Compassionate Culture Analytical Tool for Educators (S-CCATE) National Validation Study that will help the organizations validate the 2026 version as revised to reflect the ongoing needs of educators and students in the U.S. All school staff members are encouraged to participate, including teachers, coaches, administrators, support staff, and mental health providers. The online survey will take 10-12 minutes to complete, and participants will be entered into a drawing for over $1,400 in prizes and will receive a graphical summary report for your school (with at least 7 educator responses). There are opportunities to include student participants in the S-CCATE Student Voice Survey. By participating, you help validate a tool designed to build more compassionate school cultures for your most vulnerable students. Take the S-CCATE survey here.

Please feel free to share with colleagues (educators and mental health professionals working in schools)

Subject: [COGDEVSOC] CDS 2026 Preconference on Strategic Decision-Making

Dear CDS community,

We welcome you to participate in our half-day preconference workshop on strategic decision-making at CDS on April 9 12:30-3:30pm at Hotel Bonaventure.

Our speakers will be: Peter Blake (Boston University), Yarrow Dunham (Yale University), Tamar Kushnir (Duke University)Larisa Heiphetz (Columbia University)Alex Shaw (University of Chicago) and me (Katherine McAuliffe, Boston College).

We are also seeking data blitz presentations for this workshop. Please use this form to submit your abstract.

Preconference Description

Children’s everyday choices may seem simple, far removed from the complex decision-making strategies adults employ. Yet, a growing body of research reveals that the seeds of strategic reasoning—and the errors that accompany it—take root early in life. Even before they can formally participate in institutional decision-making, children are already bargaining with peers, reinterpreting rules to serve their interests, and exploring how to leverage information in pursuit of their goals. This workshop focuses on what we know (and what remains to be understood) about the developmental origins of decision-making strategies.

To address these questions, the workshop combines presentations by leading experts with interactive activities designed to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue. By bridging perspectives from social psychology, behavioral economics, developmental science, and bringing together researchers across career levels, we aim to carve out a shared research agenda on the future of developmental decision-making research.
