OUR MISSION It is the mission of the Saint Louis Chess Club, an educational organization, to maintain a formal program of instruction to teach the game of chess and to promote and support its educational program through community outreach and local and national partnerships to increase the awareness of the educational value of chess.

We are a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization dedicated to chess education and promoting chess in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. The Club has roots going back to the mid-1800s and holds some of the nation's longest-running tournaments in the United States. We have helped to organize national championship tournaments including the 1946 U.S. Open and the 2004 National Elementary and the 2010 U.S. Blind. Our newsletter, En Passant, has won awards from Chess Journalists of America.

A chess club is a club formed for the purpose of playing the board game of chess. Chess clubs often provide for both informal and tournament games and sometimes offer league play. Traditionally clubs host over the board, face to face chess more than play on internet chess servers or computer chess.
Clubs are mainly attached to a national federation, either directly or through membership of a regional chess association. The national federation in turn is a member of FIDE, the international governing body of chess. The global aegis helps to establish uniformity of rules and playing conditions internationally, though some countries such as the United States use their own official set of rules with minor differences from FIDE rules. The United States has many chess clubs affiliated with the United States Chess Federation (USCF). A club's affiliation with its national chess federation helps to standardize chess tournament rules.
If your intention is to play chess in order to improve, to have some fun playing chess over the board, or even just to experience chess for the first time and see what it's all about, the UConn Chess Club and our coach, IM Jan Van De Mortel, is ready to teach and learn from you!
The Chess Club at Virginia Tech is a Registered Student Organization at Virginia Tech. We are dedicated to providing a friendly environment for playing and learning the sport Chess. During Fall 2023, we meet on Thursdays at Squires Brush Mountain B (3rd floor) from 6:45 p.m. and on Sundays from 6 p.m on Lichess. If you are busy, you can come late or leave early. We also have a very active Discord group where we discuss games, problems and socialize. Our goals are to make chess available to Virginia Tech as whole and to train for the annual VA State Chess Tournament as well as other tournaments.
We are the WPI Chess Club. The club currently meets on Saturdays from 2:00 - 4:00 PM in Unity Hall 520. We also have casual events coming to fit varied levels of experience. You can find a link to our Discord server on the WPI Hub or on the WPI Main server in the #server-list channel.
The Chess Club at University of Houston is dedicated to growing the Chess community on campus. We aim is to accomplish this through our numerous events and comfortable space for people to simply play chess.
The UVM Chess Club is student led organization dedicated to playing, studying, and teaching chess. We provide a relaxed space in which chess enthusiasts of all levels are welcome to come and enjoy the beautiful sport of chess. We also frequently travel to tournaments for both collegiate and individual category events on the local, regional, and national level. In addition, we provide regular, student taught lessons to promote the game and help our players advance their skills.
There were 24 boys and 20 girls in a chess club last year. This year the number of boys increased by 25% but the number of girls decreased by 10%. Was there an increase or decrease in overall membership? Find the overall percent change in membership of the club.
At our meetings you can expect to find people of all skills playing chess with one another, as well as solving puzzles, or playing chess variants. There are no dues, and boards as well as clocks are provided. All you have to do is come and join the fun.
The purpose of the KU Chess Club is to promote chess play and learning at KU and the broader community. We are open to all KU students and staff regardless of skill or experience. To join the KU Chess Club, you need only sign up to our email list (instructions below).
Our Club Chess is a student organization and is open to all students enrolled at UTRGV. Faculty and staff are also welcome to join us on Mondays and Thursdays. We are not the UTRGV Chess Team although we work closely with the UTRGV Chess Team to promote chess in our community.
Arlington Chess Club Open supports a homeschool chess club at Inclusion Coffee in downtown Arlington. Children learn how the pieces moves, practice tactics, and have lots of fun. Some players prepare for competitive US Chess Federation rated tournaments. To inquire about the group, contact:
Arlington Chess Club provides opportunities for youth and adults to play and learn about chess. We host weekly gatherings aimed at adults and multiple meetings aimed at families and kids. Some things that happen regularly at our meetings include casual games, bughouse, blitz, help for beginners/novices, information about tournaments.
Please support the businesses that host our club and tip at least 20%. Otherwise, attendance and participation at our meetings is free. We consider you a member just for showing up. Most of our chess tournaments require an entrance fee and US Chess Federation membership. Our Speedy Quads tournaments are free.
You can expect casual games, strategy discussions, and fun chess variants at the meetings. Beginners are welcome and we would be glad to teach you the game! We have plenty of boards and timers but you're welcome to bring your own.
The Western Washington University Chess Club aims to enrich and motivate our members to actively compete, practice and build relationships with fellow students of all skill levels from beginners to experts. We believe the Chess Club will provide an opportunity for students to hone their concentration, memory, and problem solving skills while simultaneously having fun. Meetings will be once a week and our main source of communication is using discord! Discord has been a great way for everyone to communicate, play online, and organize club meetings! The Chess Club at Kennesaw State University is dedicated to the spirit of and the advancement of chess as a recreational club and a medium of self-improvement. To this end, we aim to improve the skill of all chess players regardless of their experience level. In addition, it is our desire to make chess more accessible to students and the surrounding community. It is our desire that this club will enrich the lives of students, staff, and the community through both casual and competitive chess (when applicable). The Purdue Chess Club hosts weekly meetings that provide students the opportunity to play casual games with others. We provide chess sets and clocks at these meetings, and welcome players of all skill levels. We encourage players try to find opponents of similar strength/experience so that games are as competitive as possible.
Typically, meetings are on Wednesday evenings in Stewart (STEW). If we don't have a room reserved for the week, we will meet in the Union at the tables in front of Starbucks downstairs. The room in STEW varies from week to week, so club members can find weekly meeting information from the following locations:
Chess Club is designed to give students an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy challenging their peers, while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit. Chess is used to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. While the students will have the chance to track their progress and to compete in chess matches, our main focus will be to encourage learning, sportsmanship, and fun. Chess club will meet every other week at the Daphne campus and compete in monthly Chess Meets at Daphne High School.
Chess Club is open to all Gonzaga students regardless of skill level. This organization provides a space for students to learn, play, study, and watch chess. Fostering a like-minded community of intellectual learners and building cognitive skills is the club's principal objective.
More than two dozen Colgate students joined with Kasparov, who was live via Zoom from Croatia, for a wide-ranging discussion on topics related to chess, political activism, and the future of artificial intelligence. Kasparov, who held the title of world chess champion from 1984 until his retirement in 2005, remains passionate about the game and its potential as a tool for young students to hone cognitive skills of critical thinking and creativity.
