Link to join meeting: https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/721746085Abstract: Ascribing causal efficacy to consciousness per se – as distinct from its underlying neural process – amounts to offending physics’ very foundation, namely its conservation laws. Understandably, therefore, nearly all modern theories in philosophy of mind have acknowledged the distinction between consciousness and its accompanying physiology, yet, fearing the above offence, denied consciousness any causal efficacy. This was the option favored by epiphenomenalism, parallelism, identity theory, etc. Consider however a simple question: Why do humans perceive consciousness as distinct from its accompanying neurophysiology? Either i) this is a misperception, or ii) this perception is the very effect of something inherently non-physical. I show that (i) leads to grotesque absurdities. Interactionist dualism (ii), alas, remains the only option.

5.) Apart from ensuring a reasonable internet connection, also
closing other applications on one's machine often significantly
increases the quality.
