Hi there,

First of all I would like to thank you for creating such a wonderful software. Its simplicity and easy of use is what I liked the most.

I do have a question-

1. During restoration, is there a possibility the newly installed Minarca client can connect to an existing repo on the server without overwriting the data and offer an option to restore files?

Eg. let's say the machine on which I was running Minarca client died on me and I had to replace the hdd and reinstall the OS. Now when I install the client, I cannot use the same name to connect to the server as it keeps throwing an error stating "repo with similar name already exist". What I am looking for is a way to connect the client to an existing backup and then restore files on the newly restored machine. I know I can get the files via Web URL of the server, but for me it will be convenient if the client can browse thru the existing data on the server and give an opportunity to restore the files I want.

2. Is there a way to connect a machine(which was rebuilt due to h/w failure) with a similar name to an existing repo and continue backing up data from where it left off last time and not create a new repo?

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hello Lezz,

Thanks for reaching out. Minarca supports both of your use cases.

If you want to restore all your data from an existing repository, open the wizard and configure an online backup using the same repository name as before. When prompted to replace the existing repository, answer “Yes.”

When configuring the backup settings, you can select “Manual” for the backup frequency. This prevents the first backup from starting automatically once the backup is configured.

After that, you can use “Restore backup” to recover your data.

I hope this clarifies things. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your response, Patrik. I did what you suggested and was able to restore the files.

The initial setup screen tricked me with its wordings  where it said "Do you want to replace the existing repository". I thought if I say yes, the backed up data on the server will be overwritten with the new machine data and that's not what I wanted.

Anyways I am good now and the backed up data saved my day.

Take care and have a nice day.

Cheers!

Hello Leslie,

I'm glad Minarca saved your Day !

About the prompt "Do you want to replace the existing repository" do you have any recommendations?

Hello Patrik,

May be we can change the wording to be something like-

Title:
Repository already exists

Body:
A repository with this name already exists on the server.
You can safely connect to it to access or restore your files — your existing data on the server will not be replaced.

Question:
Do you want to connect to the existing repository?

Buttons:
Cancel  Connect

And then the user decides if the connection to an existing repo should be made for restore or create a new one.

I do have an additional question. Is there a way within the client UI or on the Minarca server that I can use to schedule backup at specific time?

Thanks,
Leslie
