‘உலகத்தமிழ்’ படித்தேன். சிறப்பான இதழ்! இலக்கியம், பதிகம், கலைச்சொல், மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, நூல் திறனாய்வு என முழுக்க முழுக்க ஒரு மொழியியல் இதழாக விளங்குகிறது. குறிப்பாக கி.வா.ச., வ.சுப.மாணிக்கனார் போன்ற மூத்த தமிழறிஞர்களின் படைப்புகளை மணிச்சுருக்கப் பகுதிகளாகப் பிரித்துத் தொடராக வெளியிட்டு வருவது கண்டு வியந்தேன். இது நான் செய்ய நினைத்திருந்த ஒன்று. காலம் கூடி வரவில்லை. நீங்கள் செய்கிறீர்கள். மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி!
மொத்த இதழிலும் எந்தப் படைப்புமே இரண்டு பக்கங்களுக்கு மேல் இல்லாதது இன்னொரு வியப்பு! படிப்பதே தெரியவில்லை. மொத்த இதழையும் படித்து முடித்தாலும் வெகு நேரம் படித்தது போன்ற அயர்வு யாருக்கும் தோன்றாது. அந்த அளவுக்கு எல்லாமே சட்சட்டென முடிந்து விடுகின்றன. இன்றைய தலைமுறையினரைத் தமிழ் படிக்க வைக்க இது இன்றியமையாதது! மிக அருமையான திட்டம்!!!
அதே நேரம் சில குறைகளும் உள்ளன என்பதைப் பணிவன்புடன் சுட்டிக் காட்ட விழைகிறேன்.
இந்தி மொழியின் நவீன இலக்கியச் சிற்பிகள் எனும் பகுதி, தொல்லிலக்கியத் தோரணம் பகுதியில் இந்தி மொழிபெயர்ப்பு போன்றவை திடுக்கிட வைத்தன. இந்தி பிற மொழிகளைத் தின்று வளரும் மொழி. தனக்கெனத் தனிச் சிறப்புகள் அதிகம் இல்லா மொழி. அப்படிப்பட்ட மொழியை மக்களிடம் கொண்டு சேர்க்க முயலும் இத்தகைய பகுதிகள் நல்லவையல்ல.
மேலும் இதழின் பல இடங்களிலும் எழுத்துப்பிழைகள், நிறுத்தற்குறிப் பிழைகள் உள்ளன. இவ்வளவு சிறப்பான இதழில் அதுவும் பழந்தமிழ்ப் பாடல்களையெல்லாம் வெளியிடும் இதழில் பிழைகள் இருந்தால் அவை மக்களுக்குத் தவறான புரிதலை ஏற்படுத்தி விடும். எனவே அதில் கொஞ்சம் அக்கறை காட்ட வேண்டுகிறேன்.
உலங்கூர்தி போன்ற நல்ல கலைச்சொற்களைக் கையாளும் விதம் போற்றத்தக்கது. ஆனால் பக்கத்திலேயே அடைப்புக்குறிக்குள் ‘ஹெலிகாப்டர்’ என்று தமிழில் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தீர்கள். அடைப்புக்குறிக்குள் ‘Helicopter’ என்று ஆங்கிலத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தால் நலமாக இருந்திருக்கும். எப்பொழுதுமே தமிழ்க் கலைச்சொற்களைப் பயன்படுத்தும்பொழுது பக்கத்தில் அடைப்புக்குறிக்குள் அதற்கான ஆங்கிலச் சொல்லை ஆங்கில எழுத்துக்களில் குறிப்பிட்டால்தான் அழகு. மாறாகத் தமிழ் எழுத்தில் அந்த ஆங்கிலச் சொல்லை எழுதினால் அதை அடைப்புக்குறிக்கு வெளியிலேயே எழுதி விட்டுப் போயிருக்கலாமே எனப் படிப்பவர்களுக்குத் தோன்றும், இல்லையா?
மேலும் இவ்வளவு தமிழ் மணக்கும் இதழில் ஆங்காங்கே கிரந்த எழுத்துக்களைப் பார்க்க நேர்ந்ததும் வருத்தமாக இருந்தது. கிரந்த எழுத்துக்கள் தமிழுக்குத் தீமை மட்டுமில்லை, அப்படிப் பிற மொழி எழுத்துக்களுக்காக நாம் நம் எழுத்துமுறையில் தனி எழுத்துக்களைப் பயன்படுத்தி எழுதுவது என்பது உலக மொழி வழக்குக்கே முரணானது. முடிந்தால் அதையும் தவிர்க்கக் கோருகிறேன்! அல்லது முடிந்த வரையிலுமாவது தவிர்க்கக் கோருகிறேன்.
