This publication of National Book Trust of India is the manifesto of Bharatiya Bhasha Samithi recently established by GOI as an umbrella organization overseeing all language institutes of the Central Government including CIIL. I haven’t read the book. But from excerpts from the book and from the proceedings of conferences organized in Central Universities funded by the Samithi I gather that the goal is to downplay the historical origins of language families in India and reframe the relation as originating from the common culture / civilisation of ‘Bharath’. I suspect the hidden agenda is to return to the pre- colonial belief that all Indian languages including Dravidian, Austrian- Asiatic, Sino-Tibetan and others have their origin in Sanskrit and owe their ontological existence to Sanskrit.

The biggest language engineering effort in my half a century of exposure to linguistics.
