Ghost Hunters is arguably the most popular and successful of the ghost-hunting documentary series on TV. The show premiered in 2004, following Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS). They began exploring famous haunted locations across the United States before finally branching out and hitting haunted spots in Ireland, The United Kingdom, and Canada. Greg and Dana Newkirk, as well as their investigation team, head to the small town, where matters only get stranger. They dig deep into the strange sightings of creatures that were dubbed the Kentucky Goblins. The first season starts a bit slow but, as each episode progresses, it draws you in deeper. It faces curious oddities and eerie coincidences.

The second series dives into John Keel's Mothman Prophecies, in particular, the story of Woodrow Derenberger and Indrid Cold. They even go as far as to interview Woodrow Derenberger's family, who claim they still keep contact with Indrid Cold. It is a fantastic miniseries for something outside the typical ghost investigation series.

The paranormal meets true crime in the documentary, Cropsey. The film starts off with the story of an urban legend, about a man who had escaped an asylum. In the Staten Island legend, Cropsey kidnaps and murders children on Staten Island. He is mysterious and seems almost immortal in the legend. They talk about the legend even deeper, discussing the real tuberculosis ward that they would sneak into in order to scare their friends with the terrifying legend. The documentary then turns the tide when it is revealed that the legend was based in reality. This is where they tell the tale of the real Cropsey, a man named Andre Rand. He is a man who seemed to be the source of the legend in Staten Island.

The documentary is disturbing and bone-chillingly eerie. It starts out safe with the feeling of a paranormal documentary, and the switch that confirms the reality cements the terror. It proves that Cropsey wasn't just a boogeyman but a real to life monster.

Zak Bagans, better known for his series Ghost Adventures, purchased a home in Gary, Indiana and created the Demon House documentary. Zak and his crew investigate the house that was once home to the Ammons family, who suffered an alleged haunting and demon possession. This is not an extended episode of Ghost Adventures, it is telling the tale of the Ammons haunting with the house as the backdrop. The crew is greatly affected by the house throughout the film, making for a chilling watch.

This is not a watch for a skeptic, or someone who isn't used to Zak and his shenanigans. He can be a tough person to watch, but in general, he can create some interesting stories with his documentary style.

The Bray Road Beast is a documentary that covers the sightings of a wolf-like beast in Wisconsin. Linda Godfrey, a local reporter, investigated the reports of the werewolf creature, only to discover that the beast wasn't confined to just their neighborhood. Linda takes the initiative and looks deeper into the legend. The witnesses claimed to have seen the beast and describe it as a creature with a stature of up to seven feet. Its body is human while, allegedly, its head is that of a wolf.

The documentary features reenactments of these sightings, bringing you directly into the nightmare. The people being interviewed feel as though they truly believe what they saw was beyond nature. Their stories are incredible, while their personalities draw you in and convince even the most hardened skeptic. It will make you want to stay far from Wisconsin, but especially from Bray Road.

Shock Docs is a great series of mini-documentaries, however, the best and most alluring of the episodes belongs to Alien Abduction: Travis Walton. Travis Walton was a logger in the '70s, he and his crew mates were first-hand witnesses to something strange in the sky. The seven men witnessed an unidentified object hovering above their truck. Walton exits the truck, then disappears with a beam of light. Walton had disappeared for five days, only to show up on the side of a road. This documentary tells the full tale of Travis and even has an interview with the team that witnessed his sudden disappearance.

The documentary really shows how incredible and chilling the story is. This is one of the most famous abduction stories, right after the Betty and Barney Hill incident. The first-hand accounts told by the men who were there only makes this episode even better.

By the studio who made The Bray Road Beast, The Mothman Legacy tells the story of the cryptid known as the Mothman. It is a story that starts off with teenagers who witness the being in the woods of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It then leads all the way up with multiple sightings from 1966 until 1967 when the Point Pleasant Silver Bridge collapsed. In the cryptid community, people often associate the events and claim that Mothman is a bad omen. But then the documentary covers the most recent sightings, the most current sightings being in 2019. The Mothman Legacy is the sequel to The Mothman of Point Pleasant, which talks more about the sightings that were discussed in the Mothman Prophecies by John Keel.
