I was going to post this question, but then I figured out the answer, so now I'll post the question and the answer for anyone else who searches how to do this. This is for windows but may work on other OS idk.

Netflix detects that I run a browser which is supposed to have html5 DRM support, so it goes straight to using the html5 player. So I disable DRM in firefox, and set Widevine to never activate. But then when I try to watch a netflix video, instead of it using silverlight, which I have, it plays nothing and tells me to Enable DRM. That's pretty much a bug with their system or firefox, or just a poor design choice imo.

To fix it and force Netflix to use Silverlight, you just have to install a User Agent switcher and pretend to be a slightly older version of firefox (for example 40). Then Netflix will think your browser doesn't have html5 drm capability and it will use silverlight.

If silverlight was not being phased out, it would clearly be poor design to not fall back gracefully so the user can still get at the content. The phasing out is really the only excuse not to want to do that.

As it is, since silverlight performs more efficiently than the html5 player, this design choice (or oversight) is basically making a bunch of computers obsolete 5 months sooner than they need to be. (While a much much larger amount of computers are not affected lol.)

I did not know that happened. I would have presumed Netflix just no longer supports Browsers using Silverlight. I do not think it is a bug or poor design, you are just managing to exploit their loophole that allows support of legacy browsers.

I will mark this solved. There is not anything more we will be able to do to fix this issue for you. Solved threads show up in internal and external searches so your post will be found and seen by more people.

Usually going to settings/Apps/Netflix and then "Force Stop" has solved the problem. But it got too frequent (and general TV slowness), so I did a factory reset of the TV. But the problem is still there!

To restart, unplug the TV's power cord from the power outlet and wait a few seconds to plug it back in. Alternatively, you can press and hold the Power/Off button on the supplied remote control to reboot.

I have similar and very annoying issue. Restarting tv helps (but takes time) or forcing the app to close. Then Netflix works well until tje second time I try to open the app. Always stucks at the loading screen and back button on remote does not work. I can start Netflix using inbuild chromecast but tv gets quite un reponsive after the casting stops. Easiest seems to be navigating to settings and apps and forcing close. Yesterday I noticed similar loading issue with another streaming app (one that I haven used in months), but didn't have the time to try to shut down the app or reinstall it.

Hi,
I've actually tried that several times already. On/off, power cycle, full restart. When it didn't work, I resorted to doing a factory reset of the TV. So setting up the TV fresh didn't help either.

I'm having no problem running Netflix otherwise on that connection (not even througgh an Apple TV plugged into the TV). Its just the Netflix app on the Android TV interface that's struggling. All the other built-in apps (like YouTube etc) work just fine.

Regards,

That's just terrible, looks like you're in the same boat as me.

And since my TV is a 2015 model, its unlikely that there is much being fixed/updated at Sony via software updates either. So if this problem doesn't solve itself, I have no option but to get rid of the TV. Live in a different continent now than when I bought it, so service/support/repairs will be a challenge.

Good to hear that reinstall helped someone. I tried to unistall Netflix but since it is a system app, only option is to return to factory version of it. Already tried removing all updates and reinstalling, and cleaning cached files. Same problem occurs again the next day. So everything is ok for the first use, but after tv has been turned off (not powered off) after that netflix won't start. My tv is XD8577.

A way to finally watch Netflix in the highest quality possible. This extension forces 1080p FHD playback, as well as the option to force 5.1 AAC playback.Normally, Netflix only plays back a maximum of 720p and AAC2.0. However, with this extension, those restrictions can finally be removed. ***Out of the box, Netflix-1080p just forces 1080p AVCHi streams to be included in the streams for playback. However, there are a few options you may tweak in the extension's options menu (all left unchecked by default):- Use 5.1 audio when available: Netflix normally plays back AAC2.0 in 64kbps and 96kbps. However, by checking this option, you override those streams for 128kbps AAC5.1, which can take advantage of surround sound setups!- Automatically select best bitrate available: Checking this option allows you to always playback the highest quality streams, no matter how fast Netflix thinks your connection is.- Use VP9 instead of H.264: For older computers, decoding VP9 in software can be faster and more efficient than decoding H.264 in software. Check this option if you notice slowdown or dropped frames with 1080p AVC playback.***This extension is free and will remain free. It is licensed under the MIT license, and is completely open source.I welcome any and all contributions! GitHub is linked below.***GitHub + more in-depth explanation: -1080p

Lisa Kudrow is up there with Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as one of the great icons of TV comedy. With her new Netflix series Space Force, released May 29, one thing is also becoming clear: Kudrow loves leisurewear. For nearly the entire season, her character, Maggie, wears a prison jumpsuit similar to the tracksuit she wore on The Comeback. "It was just as comfortable as Aunt Sassy's tracksuit." Space Force, created by The Office alums Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, finds Kudrow's character in prison while her husband, played by Carell, leads a new government agency to get the U.S. back on the moon. However, why Maggie is in prison is just as much a mystery to Kudrow as it will be viewers. "She's still sort of up in the air. Is she a badass or what happened? They don't know." It's a busy time for Kudrow. Soon she'll take part in a Friends reunion special for HBO Max, but she's quick to point out it's not a new episode. "It worries me that people think it's going to be an episode. It's not. It's a special. We don't want to disappoint people."

Daniels and Carell together was already wow, great, yes! Here's the embarrassing thing, I didn't know this country had a space force until after I was done shooting it. Somehow it never came up because I think everyone just assumed that I knew what was going on in the world. After I saw the president's State of the Union, I texted Greg and Steve, 'Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I had no idea that we had a space force.'

Just that she's still sort of up in the air. Is she a badass or what happened? Maybe this is secret information if there's more, but I don't know. I talked to Greg about it for a while. I just decided there's a range about what happened. Either she just sort of said, "We're here because there's a base here in Colorado. I don't think that's a secret, is it?" And then that's what she did wrong and has to be in prison for 40 years. Or she was involved in some kind of initial international espionage. I don't know.

Yeah, she's good. I felt like the way she was when we first see her, she's the perfect wife of a general [to Steve Carell's character]. And if there are political aspirations for him, then she's perfect there, too. She just knows how to fit in. But when she sort of bursts into tears after hearing they're moving to Colorado out of D.C. Is that because "How will I do my work?" or "God, I'm screwed?" Whatever her sideline is, it's just that superficial misery. I wanted to keep it open in my head.

I think she'd be trying to get her 200 followers to start a thing. Like, "Let's watch I'm It. While we're sitting here and have nothing better to do. Right? Fun. Take your mind off things. Stop watching the briefings. Time to laugh." Maybe she does a fashion show thinking she's just adorable and cute showing off all of her scarves. She would call them "my iconic scarves." Just because you say it doesn't make it true. But she's a firm believer in that.

That would be fantastic. That would be great. Ru had me on Drag Race saying "Hello, hello, hello." But I didn't want to be a judge at all. I'm in no position. I can't even imagine judging or having one complaint about any of them.

A million people. I haven't worked with more people than I have worked with. I know that's not a funny answer, but honestly, there's too many. I'd feel bad for not saying someone. It would be fun to work with Allison Janney. How's that? Wait a minute. I did! On Web Therapy.

We've only all been together once before, privately years ago. To me, the fun thing is we all remembered different things. Jennifer [Aniston] and [Matt] LeBlanc remember absolutely everything perfectly. I can't wait to just relive the stuff that was behind the scenes.
