Master's Swim Coach

Hey All (who still exist and read this) - Bad news.  It seems we have lost Jamie as our master's swim coach due to a licensure class he is taking Mon/Wed to become a teacher.  I'm hoping that they will continue the master's swim class as I know there are a few of us who have continued to go to the class regularly and look forward to both the instruction, consistency, cramraderie, pool availability and great workouts.

 

Would any of you be interested in leading the class or know someone who might be?

 

They said they only had one person signed up for the current session and obviously no instructor, so it didn't make sense to offer the class.  I'm hoping with enough interest and an instructor, maybe they'd offer it again for the next session, starting in June.

Did anyone reply to you regarding this?  I am no longer a YMCA member so Im not sure if I would 'qualify' but I am trying to start coacing agin.  Let me know if this is still 'in the works'

Hey Alison - Walt replied and said that Steve's daughter, Kelsey, may be interested, however, she's waiting to hear on another summer job before she commits. 

 

Other than that, I haven't really heard of anything.  I don't think you have to be a member to coach, but I'm guessing that if you do coach, they would provide you with a membership.  You'd obviously have to check on that. 

 

Scott Bolte had also replied to me and noted, as I kind of alluded do, that the reason there was only one person signed up for the most recent session was because of a function of no instructor for a couple of weeks and rumors the class had been canceled, rather than a matter of no interest.

 

Let me know if you talk to the Aquatic Director and find anything out.  I think the new AD's name is Crystal Jones.  Keep us posted!

I don't see the time on the schedule.  What time/day were you meeting?  What time/days would work best?  Currently I teach 7-8pm Mondays and 5-8pm Tuesdays my outpost gig is from anytime between 10a-7pm but could work around me as well.

Let me know folks, I want to train more again anyway!

Hey Alison - currently we haven't been meeting because there hasn't been a coach since this spring.  I know at least a handful of us who used to come very regularly would be interested in going regularly again, even if it's just one night for 90 min. 

 

Do you want to reach out to someone at the West Suburban YMCA to see if they are able to fit an evening master's class into the schedule?  I believe the contact now is Crystal Jonas: cjo...@ymcamke.org

 

Keep us posted!  I'm eager to get in some great workouts in the pool again!

Great! Thank all of you for your responses.  Right now I am thinking that early morning and one night a week would work best with my currently schedule.  I will reach out to Crystal to see if we can get something going!

Hey stranger!  Hope you guys are all doing well!  So. .. have you been getting in the pool?  I was getting a consistent 4-6K (14K the last week of outdoor! ). We switched to Experience.  I've tried getting in at 5:30 am... less successful than summertime! Let's figure out a time to cAtch up.
