Has anyone compared Cambam to Lazycam?

I tend to forget about Lazycam because it comes with Mach3 and isn't
really a separate program.

I've been watching the videos on CamBam and it looks nice. I was planning
on downloading it this weekend. Lazycam is VERY limited, and not the
easiest program to use. From my understanding, it is not being developed,
but is included as a tool to do some quick g-code programing.

I'll simply echo Tom's comments - Lazycam isn't being developed
anymore due to the increasing number of free/low-cost CAM programs.
CamBam looks to be making enhancements at a rapid rate, and I'm
tempted to buy a copy, as once you have a license, you'll get future
versions for free (and I despise the upgrade cost treadmill that all
the big CAD/CAM vendors put you on).

Has anyone tried the Phlatscript in Google sketchup yet? I'm trying to find the best way to ease into 3d modeling for CNC.

I haven't tried that one yet. Check out HeeksCAD/HeekdCAM--
they're not well documented yet, but they're under active development.

Installation for Windows:

Installation for Ubuntu:

They also have instructions for ArchLinux and OpenSUSE, and OSX.

Should we take up a collection to buy a license for the makerspace?

I would use the 40 free runs first,  there is a copy loaded on the 2 PCs on the desks in the Lab.

Lets burn up our trial period, make a few projects and then evaulate. I'm almost ready on my exterior unit front panel design.
