Hello all,
I’m Adrian, Maker Faire Milwaukee, Nerdy Derby area champion.
Over the past
several years I have been helping build Nerdy Derby cars for the Milwaukee
Makerspace track. I enjoy immensely
working with the kids that build them.
At Maker Faire Milwaukee in 2014 we built over 1,000 cars and in 2015 we did
somewhere between 1200-1500 cars in two days.
This building event is a great showpiece for kids to get involved in.
We have found, along the way, that the large track is a bit too aggressive for
our younger builders. We have had a
smaller track, built by our good friends at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum
(BBCM), and find that this track usually gets more action then the larger
track.
We would like to
ask the members at Milwaukee Makerspace to help design a new larger track that
is kid friendly.
The cost of building the track would be covered under the Maker Faire Milwaukee budget. The cutting, assembly and finishing of the track could be done at BBCM, if need be.
Once the track is built it would be an asset of Maker Faire Milwaukee and could
be used for several events by various groups throughout the years.
We could also post the plans or offer them to other groups. This would go a long way in the spirit of
sharing.
