Fixed my small floor standing drill press. Bought at Menards like 40 years ago. I did a lot of modifications and made it a very good drill press. Has drilled a million holes. The plastic cooling fan in the motor broke. So I took the motor out thinking I would go to Harbor Freight and look for a replacement. Then I had an idea. I cut the fingers out of the cooling slot (easier than taking the motor apart) and broke up the plastic fan and took it out. Bought a small exhaust fan off eBay and mounted it under the motor. Some hard foam for the spacer. Wired it in so it runs when the drill press is running. Was quite easy and works great. Cost me like $15.00. :)
One thing to note that I see in the picture. After so many years the rubber ring on the shaft for the drill chuck holder wore out. I took a larger o-ring, cut it at an angle to make one a smaller diameter and superglued it in place. Like 30 years later the superglue is still holding strong. Amazing. Also took a larger aluminum electrical box and cut it up and welded it to make it narrower to fit on front so I have the switch on front. That I did right away.3 pulley drill press. To drill steel one needs 3 pulleys.
