I went to work on the Bridgeport mill and found it dirty. No problem, I thought.   I will just use the air gun and blow it off. How wrong could I be. The air gun is missing! The air gun was attached to the air hose with a steel cable! I can't use my own machine! At this time I want the machine cleaned, and the floor cleaned and the air Preview attachment IMG_20220805_164139961.jpggun returned.          Preview attachment IMG_20220805_164124744.jpg Tom Preview attachment IMG_20220805_164133339.jpgK

The images didnt come through Tom. But regardless, someone should get on owning their shit. The keyfob reader might shed some light.

This your personal machine?  Curious as to how that works being at the MakerSpace for use then?

Either way, the images are broken.

Also.. being that only members can use this equipment, posting the MEMBERS mailing list would probably make more sense. (instead of posting to those who can not access it)

With few exceptions all of the tools belong to a member.  It is actually what the makerspace is all about.  Tools and knowledge.  I thought everyone knew how the makerspace operates.

Many of the machines at Makerspace are owned by members who brought their personal machines in to Makerspace for everyone to use.

@J.Dugan - It is his personal machine which Tom has generously allowed the membership to use (and abuse) for at least the 9 years I have been a member. He personally has taught many, including myself, how to use it properly and effectively. My personal opinion is that he has been far more than patient with the many times people have misused or broken this machine. As far as Im concerned , criticizing anything Tom chooses to do at this point is ridiculous and potentially very insulting.

@Richard Bowmen -

What was criticizing?   Just asking how this was his personal tool?

And what was insulting?

* Nobody is defending any 'abuse'

* Yelling at the people who can't even use it doesn’t seem to be the right target audience.

And I guess was not aware that all tools belonged to an individual.  When I donate $$ to new machines I think would be nice for the space to have (CNC mill for example).. I did not know these were going to be owned by an individual.  Thanks for clarifying, as this changes things a bit.

@Tom

I’m not sure who needs to read this… but misuse and abuse of such a piece of equipment is unacceptable. It’s a privilege to have access to this. Thank you Tom.

That being said… Tom when are you offering more training? Can you host a high level training session for highly technically minded folk? I feel that more experts will lead to more consistent monitoring of the condition of the space..

Jerry,
I don't think there was anything wrong with your asking. You don't know if you don't ask.
As far as group buys of a machine, those are the few machines that the space does own. Makerspace wouldn't have anywhere near as much equipment as we have if all the equipment was purchased by the space or by group buys. Most of the machines were purchased by individual members, usually before they were even members. Once they became members, they asked if the space wants to use their machine. In some cases, the answer is yes, sometimes no. If the machine is brought in, it's with the agreement that anyone can be trained on the machine and once trained can use it whenever they want. Also once trained, the members will respect the machines and use them correctly.
I hope that better explains how Makerspace works.
Linda S.
