I have a wire display rack with a couple of broken welds.  I know nothing about welding, except that there are different kinds for different purposes.  I was going to try epoxy glue, then I saw what the Makerspace offered.  I there someome who would be willing to take on this repair?  I could trade sewing.  I use this rack at pet events to hold educational handouts.

I think we have the parts to rig a spot welder will need to experiment first..  You will need to repaint the welded areas.

I (personally) have a Hobart Handler 125 welder... (more of ahobby sized.. cant do more than 3/8 thickness Id say (at tops)..

its already set-up for gas/mig..etc

Its always available for MMS use.. if a more 'senior' member wants to 'borrow it' for the space for a while..  (or any of my junk).. just send me an email.. and come get it!

We'll work out a way to get and return it..   :)

If the wire is thin enough, does anyone think that solder would work?

We have the TIG welder up and running.

You can use either the MIG (wire feed and grind down the finished weld, or the TIG and try to be neat about it.

I'll do it.
I want to get checked out again on some of the new welding gear at MMS anyway, and I'd be happy to spend some time w/ it.
I can make some time earlier or much later Tues., or mostly open on Wed. ...for now.

I doubt that your shelf is aluminum, but if it is - I don't think MMS has equipment for aluminum as yet.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I have the rack in the back of my car.  I'll bring it in when I'm there next (Monday or Tuesday).  I have done jewelry making and thought of trying silver solder, but I didn't think it would be strong enough.  The wire is about 1/8" thick, and is probably steel (rusts if not painted).  I'm hoping for someone who can look at how this was assembled, tell me if the Makerspace has the equipment to do the same, and either weld it, or teach me how to.  Or at least tell me what I'm looking at so I know what terms to use.

I plan to be there for sure to help with Trash Day Tuesday.

I took the rack in today, thinking I would park it in a corner until there was time to consult on what I could do to fix it, and before I even got in the door someone intercepted me and asked if they could help.  They took it into where someone else was welding, and before i knew it the repair was done!  I want to thank my two rescuers (sorry, I didn't get your names) and I would still like to find some time to learn how to do it myself.

Hah!  Welcome to the club.

This is how we do things at the Milwaukee Makerspace.  :)
