hello!
Brant, i suppose you may have something to say about this.
How effective are panels of reflective materials/insulation behind steam radiators? My house is from 1903 and the exterior walls definitely have terrible insulation. I doubt i will be able to feel a difference, but how much of a change could i reasonably expect by putting reflective/insulating panels behind all my radiators along exterior walls?

It really depends upon how clean the reflective materials remain over time. As dirt and grim collect on a reflective surface the reflectivity decreases significantly.

Any insulation you can place between the the wall and the radiator will help and a reflective will help. Try not to let the material touch the radiator. The differences you would probably notice is that you can sit a few more inches away and still feel warmth from that radiator. For older homes I recommend blown in cellulose cheap non-itchy and breathes better and wicks moisture away..
