Hello Makers!

Did you see this?

    http://blog.makezine.com/2012/09/12/nerdy-derby-cool-cars-from-milwaukee-makerspace/

How are your cars coming?

Is there anyone else who can help fab up some car parts?

I've got wheels (laser cut and 3D printed) but we could always use more...

If anyone could take on some car bodies, just cut up scrap wood in all various sizes as long as the width fits the track.

Here's some car specs:

And finally, Buggs, when might we see the track at the space?

I have 2 dozen wheel and axle sets at home - will bring them by the space soon.

My own car progress hasn't progressed beyond design - the ducted fan hasn't shown up yet, so I'm wondering if my order for it went through.  But my wheel bearings have arrived, so I can at least turn my wheels from Delrin rod.

I have a car and pics, but it apparently did not make it to facebook.
I'm working on a Mark2 version now.

I just need a laser cutter working so I can cut my "non-standard"
sized wheels....

I'm waffling over whether or not to bother tracking down a G.I.Joe
torso to superglue in the driver's seat....

My cutter is available if anyone needs to stop over. I do not have
Corel Draw though, just Illustrator.

I have been working on a Nerdy Derby car with a tried and true design borrowed liberally from the Slingshot, the vehicle that took first place at the IDSA Ultimate Derby Car 2007 competition Oct. 20 at the World Design Congress in San Francisco. "The Slingshot leverages gravity, pulleys and lax rules to sling a small chassis across the finish line from out of a larger mother vehicle".  The Slingshot was timed at 1.715 seconds down a standard 40-foot track.

I am  looking for a better mouse trap.  I need to get a spring with quite a bit of potential energy.

Although my Nerdy Derby 3.0 entry has gone through a series of design changes, I am sure it will at least roll to the finish line thanks to a cross section of the track I made.

With the donation of some parts from a friend, my entry has just gone
'crazy'. I'm not going to say more until I get the engineering worked
out.

During it's initial test run,  my car crashed into the wall.  That was sort of expected, since I had no way of controlling the vehicle.  What really wasn't expected was the smoke and fire that consumed all of the wiring almost instantly. Evidently the impact caused a short.  Except for some smoke damage the battery and motor seem to be just fine. I hope to have it back together before Thursdays track unveiling.

..... I don't even want to know what kind of Frankenstein you are making there...

It's like a train wreck you don't want to look but almost have to. I can't wait! "And that's when the Pinewood Derby sized car when screaming off the track, hit the wall .... and collapsed the west side of the building your honor..."

New awesome quote.

"I loved seeing people jump when they touched the banana and loud bass drum boomed out at them."
