Some of you may have seen my sand tables, the latest being Arrakis 3.1

I recently did an experiment with it.

I removed the sand box, painted the underside of the glass top with glow in the dark paint, and added a 3D printed a UV laser holder that fit on the magnet carriage in place of the magnet. Then I ran some drawings to see what it would look like:

Very nice!

I've been intending to do the same thing with a focused UV flashlight and a wall for years.

Which brought up the idea of you could hang UV reactive tarps and draw on the walls as well. Just shine up from the bottom edge of the table with a UV/near uv laser pointer on a gimbal.
Extend your sands to the horizon. In florescent yellow. ;) an excuse to be dark and maybe wrap a camping awning for simplicity.

If I ever get set up again I'll attempt to contribute. Good job as usual.

Thanks all!

I think my next step is to get a set of laser galvos and a driver and see if I can write some code to interpret the gcode files used on the sand table to position the mirrors/laser on the wall. I might not even have to write any software- resin type 3D printers steer a laser, probably from gcode, and if not gcode, they take the gcode that a slicer generates and convert it to whatever the galvo driver needs. Maybe all I need is a driver used for resin 2D printers. More research is needed.

If anyone knows what I need to drive laser galvos using g-code files, let me know!
