Hi Makers, back in 2017 I had a conversation with Stacey Williams-Ng asking advice about putting a mural on the Lenox building.

It was during a BOD meeting and a non-BOD member was there using Google to randomly find facts to prevent a mural from happening...

Anyway, I trust what Stacy told me because she was involved in the murals for Black Cat Alley, and a bunch of the murals in Bay View, and more in Tosa.

The short version is: MMS owns the building, so MMS does not need permission from anyone *as long as* it is art, and not a sign and not an advertisment. So that means it should not have words, and definitely should not say "Milwaukee Makerspace" on it. (Because, well... that would be a sign.) Since Bay View already has a ton of murals there is plenty of precedent in place.

I don't want to post our whole conversation here on the list, but if anyone interested in spearheading the mural efforts I am happy to share the info with you... just shoot me an email. :)

So I dont have anything to cite for this, so take it with a massive grain of salt, but I was told part of the reason that Mr. P tires (Just down the street) is the weird noodles is the city would have called it a sign if it was tires.... I have noticed no one's Mural has anything to do with their business. Dont know how that translates to what we do or if that is factual, but there may be more questions we should ask of the city.

I am pro-mural.

Best to run the design past the city just in case.

It's been a project proposed on and off for years, the crux of the matter is mural painters expect to get paid for their art, numbers starting at $10,000 and going up are what we have heard in the past.

If members want to take on the task, you'll still need a budget for supplies and should prepare a rendering to show to the space and city before starting.

I'd like to be involved.  Since the private members group isnt working, I'm heading to the discord to talk more on it.

Maybe find an artist that does these and pay him or her to lay it out on the wall and help do what an artist would need to do. Delicate areas etc. The rest could be done by volunteers.

I think this is a great idea and would like to be involved.  Maybe we could generate artist fees through crowdfunding from the bay view community? To find artists I know there are several sites for that.
Is there a meeting happening on this, or are we not there yet? I will stay tuned...

I am interested in helping with said mural either in design and or application. I am an artist of a niche kind, and have done a few murals on kids bedrooms.  However I have no experience in permanent outdoor art/ treating or prepping the surface as well as ensuring the application lasts with best materials and treatments.
