This is awesome! I'm sure we can come up with something cool to
submit. I'm imagining something that symbolizes the arts scene in bay
view hand-in-hand with its industrial/blue collar history.

But I think we need to be wary about one thing: An interactive piece
is an awesome idea, but It shouldn't be anything like a museum
exhibit. Like, I don't think an educational lesson on history or
alternative energy would even pass the first round of reviews. Art
for art's sake isn't inherently informative. It should be something
obvious and simple, yet it should easily convey a message (not a
political message), a feeling, or an attitude, and be something that
really stands out. Something that the neighborhood can be proud of.
It should also not require any maintenance whatsoever, or very, very
little. We could not depend on DPW, MCTS, or funding to maintain it.

Also, since steel may be donated, it would be cool to take into
account the eventual rust as part of the overall aesthetic.

Don't mean to sound too much like a skeptic, but this is an excellent
opportunity for us and I'm just trying to be realistic.

I'm imagining something in the realm of Iannis Xenakis or Buckminster
Fuller ( but with a more contemporary aesthetic theory involved ) and
incorporating the state's motto, "FORWARD", with lighting that changes
with the seasons. Perhaps the bus bench could involve sensors that
change some aspect of the lighting depending on how many people are
seated. Or motion sensors that respond to bikes and pedestrians (I
don't think it should involve people 'going out of their way' to
interact with it, like pressing a button or turning a crank). It
should respond to its environment.

Speaking of realism: From the Submission Requirements section:

  List of 3 professional references
Resume and Portfolio of related work. 20 images maximum with identification, location, brief description and project budget.
