Actually, that device is not very well regarded among the cognoscenti. There have been any number of "modern recreations" of the '64, e.g.


but they all suffer from the same problem: they want to make "what the '64 might have been" by adding hardware features, and they're all incompatible with each other. None of them will gain enough users. On the other hand, when you start with total and complete compatibility with the '64 in mind *first*, you get something like the Ultimate 64:


It passes each and every hardware test that's been written over the years to validate emulators. Graphics and sound chips, interrupt controller, everything (and it also emulates the disk drives). It then adds... networking! And you can FTP and Telnet into it (for example to download a disk image in order to extract source code to put in revision control on the PC). You can also mirror the screen to your PC to make videos; here's one of the gopher client I wrote using Ultimate 64 networking:


Ultimate 64 is the true and worthy successor to the sacred Commodore 64.
