During one of the podcasts that I listen to it was mentioned that using
Tailscale and Nextcloud to have a private Google like environment for
their family. For the totally Open Source self hosted individuals in the
group Headscale may be right for you.
Restricting access to Nextcloud to only overlay networks puts you in
control.
