Mike Davey is selling his first generation Honda Insight.
Its an interesting car - all aluminum body, really streamlined, and an empty weighting in at 1200lb!

It still runs and drives (see below) but would make a great candidate for an all electric conversion.

Hi Tom,

Well it's finally time to replace my Insight. I've always though it would make an interesting electric car donor, so though I would let you know ahead of time that I will be selling it.

It's a 2001 5 speed manual.
166,500 miles
Still in very nice condition inside, outside and mechanically.
Tires are the original style Potenzas and have less than 20,000 miles on them.
Has an aftermarket cruse control
Will include a grid charger that I use to maintain the battery
The car still averages in the low 60 MPG in normal driving

The main battery is in need of a rebuild. I would be willing to either handle a battery swap if someone wants to buy a refurbished one (about $1000). Or if someone wants to learn how to rebuild a battery for an Insight, I will help remove and replace the battery pack and teach them how to rebuild it. This will include how to buy cells, test cells and rebuild the pack themselves. Currently there are cells on eBay that would let you rebuild a pack for about $400. I've normally gotten about 2 years or driving out of a rebuilt pack. I'm also guessing the current pack has only a few cells that need replaced so the cost to rebuild may not even be $200.

Asking $2,900 for it, really want to get at least $2,500 if I can. It will go on Craig's List and/or eBay in a week or so.

Anyway, if you happen to know someone that may be interested they can contact me. It's ready to go at any time.

Mike
