hey guys...
My local shop Redline Cycles has been in contact with Jill @ Lily Lake
Resort.
The owner is Jill. She is a long time bar owner here in Kenosha..and she
is EXTREMELY motorcycle friendly.

So much so she will host several races from her shores. You can watch
the races from the bar if you wanted to warm up!!!!

-----But to even go with that...she told me today..that she has a
4wheeler(atv) with plow that is available anytime we want to scrape off
the track. She also has an ice rink there for skating and hockey. She
ask me to come plow tomorrow. Invited me and my friends to come out and
practice during the week day.
They dont want to fire up cycles before 11am...so thats the start time
on Sunday mornings which will be the normal every week thing. Redline
laid out a circle track and a road course that will stay configured so
that the racers can tune gearing and stuff.
The posters for actually races will come soon and i will pass those
along asap.

This brings up Camp Lake? The best part of that is we have the place to
ourselves. With most others headed to Lily Lake. But I like more
bikes...we road with alot of these guys last year...so we know them.
I just wanted to bring this up... im open to mid week play(anyone else
have that kind of schedule?).

You guys that ice race, please chime in.. what do you think?

Are they racing any quads there?

Bryan,

Great question about the quads.  This would probably be the deciding factor for me.  I don't like riding around ATV's.  They have just the same right to be there as motos, but I personally don't like riding on the same tracks as them.  They don't move the same, they tear up the track faster, and exponentialize ruts.  Any guesses, ET?

Hey, I've watched quads and trackers racing on sand.... There is usually enough room to have an inner and outer track. The quads race in their own class, on their own section, and the bikes in different classes on their section. Usually there are enough bikes to have 3 or 4 different classes, making it more, and more fairly, competitive. I don't know if you have enough bikes show for the ice races to do that..........  Just a suggestion!

Roger,

I know what you mean.  While it would be great for two tracks to exist, the real estate requires more maintenance than a sand environment.  As it snows, the ice tracks require plowing.  It's bad enough that the plows are usually running constant to keep up with the ice shavings from a track.  To maintain a wider ring around that track increases plow time considerably.  (The irony here is that the plow is a quad!)

You give a rider more room to work with, and it will be used.  Everyone cuts corners at some point.  I don't see the segregation of tracks working unless someone is there to police it.  The ice is somewhat of a free-for-all, which has its pros and cons.

Amen to that.

Just to get some confirmation - will there be someone with a plow of some kind at Camp Lake this Sunday?

Bummer about the bar closing.

About quads,
There was talk about setting up a separate track for vintage bikes.
The little ice rink may be useful for the little ones still in single
digit age category. I stopped by there with Jeff Stephens last
Sunday: lots of activity with the Redline club. The high level of 20-
something to middle age crazy men on modern dirtbikes led to talks
about setting up a separate track for more mellow riders and their
rusty ratty machines that are so much more cool.

Will have to feel out the scene at Lilly lake for a week or two. I
like Camp Lake better: it is the ideal Wisconsin of Myth and Legend.
Lilly Lake feels a little Suburban Chicago to me.

Yours from the Chicago Suburbs,
John Saporta

The word is still “go” at camp lake, Sunday.  Dale Mattison (of Dale’s Cycle) says he WILL be there WITH his plow truck.

I would recommend that anyone that is interested in trying out the Lily Lake location do so, ether Satureday or Sunday after noon.  BUT I wouldn’t recommend even trying to run while they have a actual races being held. (unless your set up for compitishion).

BTW; the Lily Lake bar ( Jill’s Lily Lake Resort 262-537-2848 ) has more room & a better vew then the Last resort bar offered, AND they have FOOD!!!  I spoke with Jill (the co-owner) last Sunday and she would like to host ice riders ANY time durring the week, (That would be seperat from Red lines Raceing events) they even have Motel rooms for rent right on the lake.   That being said; I’m not trying to get any to move the Sunday camp lake event at this point, but it might be worth intertainging?

Jeff,

Thanks for the update.  If people are practicing for racing on Lily, they have other intentions than what I have for riding on the ice.  I like to have fun.  I'm going to Camp Lake this weekend.  I might try Lilly in the future.  Not sure.  Just like what we've got now, especially if Dale's willing to plow.

Always pay your plow man,
Chris

Good Point Chris!  I will be able to let you know sunday eve...if its bad for my health!

Im excited about racing!  I will be in the Vintage Class in District 16 Flat Track with my 250 Aermacchi. This is one of my motivations this winter is to get familiar with my bike and sliding and being in traffic. So when i roll into Aztalan in the spring im not scared out of my mind!
