Hello
To update on a few things that have been going on as its been a while.
We now have 2 additional key holders - Andy Selby and Jim Morrison
This should allow for greater opening hours and cover on opening days.
The management committee (for which I was elected to during the AGM, and also as a trustee) has agreed to get some additional sockets operational across the front of the mezzanine to service the desks properly, to get more of the electronics room sockets operational including RCD cover, as the plug in units keep being removed.
We are going to try and get another of the floor boxes operational towards the back if the mezzanine.
Hot working is still not permitted - electric soldering irons and the 3D printers are fine to use providing solder stations are used, and the 3D printers are observed.
The laser cutter falls in to hot work - we need to cover it with additional fire extinguishers so this is off limits for the time being. The fire extinguishers are being procured at the moment. There will also possibly need to be some additional remedial work to the area as the room opens on to a designated safe area.
Ultimately there will be some additional procedures required when carrying out hot work - these will be advised in due course.
More specific to our group, the shed has agreed to hold the money from the cash pots from can sales, 3D printer filament and any other money we get.
This will be carried out initially monthly with some shrapnel left for change.
It addresses the issue of quantities of money being left out - we've not yet had an issue here.
Deposits will be entered in to the ledger, and we will get a monthly running balance from the shed.
This will be made using a monthly donation via localgiving which will get gift aid on top, which will be around 15-20%.
We will get a geater visibility of the running total of funds available.
For small items such as useful components, consumables, small tools etc, A £20 limit applies providing it will have a genuine continued use within the hackspace.
Receipts must be provided and entered in to the ledger.
A reminder that we ask for a £5/month donation towards the hackspace slushfund - please record your donation in the ledger.
Above this value there must be a "for" majority vote of the members before any the purchases are made on behalf of the hackspace.
No agreement = no purchase and release of funds.
Large purchases can be reimbursed to your bank account with BACS directly from the main sheds account on completion of the appropriate form.
It is worth noting that while we may have some funds, we shouldn't just be spending it as we please.
We've investigated having our own account and its lots of hassle to operate at the moment -needs several people, a constitution, AGM's and all sorts of other crap.
In time, it will come, but not justifiable at the moment.
Although there is a shopping_channel on slack, it would be far more useful to put this on the Wiki with a table - item, cost, request date, justification etc.
It is much easier to keep a track of it, and also makes it visible to other members or potential members who may be able to donate items or put them on to long term loan.
For items that are not related to electronics and are more woodwork/metal/mechanical engineering, these would be expected to be purchased by the main shed.
I am happy to put forward sensible requests, providing they are properly justified.
Many thanks to Andy and others in getting the tool storage in a better shape.
If I've forgotten anything or there are any queries, please ask!
Thanks
Michael
