Hi Folks,

It appears that City staff is reluctant to take the deal offered by the School District. They want their own special deal that most observers think is a poor substitute. Your attendance is important to ensure a fair deal.

Hi Folks,

On October 15, the Milpitas City Council will decide a matter of great importance to all city residents. Following is the situation as presented by ex-MUSD Board member Mike Mendizabal. If you can't attend the meeting, please call, write or e-mail the Council this week (http://www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov/government/council/speak.asp). Thanks.

McCandless School Site

The Milpitas Unified School District (MUSD) is trying very hard to secure a site for a much needed school in the Transit Area of Milpitas. The new site is near the Great Mall Parkway and McCandless. The property is currently tied up in court (County of Santa Clara & City of Milpitas).

The County has agreed to remove this property from the lawsuit, if it is sold to MUSD. The City of Milpitas should be considering this at the October 15 council meeting. MUSD has agreed to pay the City back any payments it has made to purchase the land and take over the remaining payments.

We should encourage our City council to agree to this. Our entire community needs this school. The only school in the area (Zanker) has reached its capacity and the extra students generated by the 7,000 residences planned for the Transit Area will have to go to other schools throughout Milpitas.

It will take up to 4 years to build the school. MUSD cannot start until they have the land. If the land remains tied up in court, the building of the school will be delayed even more. New residences are being built right now and will not be delayed.

Please encourage your elected officials to finalize this deal so all our children can enjoy neighborhood schools and all our property values can continue to be strong.

I will send out more information when the council agenda is set.

Thanks,
