Chasing Ice

Second Saturday Documentary Series

Chasing Ice focuses on climate change, disappearing ice sheets

National Geographic photographer James Balog was once a skeptic about climate change. Then he participated in an "Extreme Ice Survey" and discovered undeniable evidence of our changing planet.

In Chasing Ice, we follow Balog across the Arctic as he deploys revolutionary time-lapse cameras designed for one purpose: to capture a multi-year record of the world's changing glaciers. Balog's hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into minutes and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate.

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Jeffrey Spencer, the senior pastor at Niles Discovery Church and a climate activist. The screening is free, though donations are accepted.

EXTRA:  The 800 Mile Wall

The Dominica Sisters and the Sisters of The Holy Family will present a screening of the documentary, "The 800 Mile Wall," on October 2, 3, and 15.  Details below

The film highlights the construction of the new border walls along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as the effect on migrants trying to cross into the U.S. This powerful 90 minute film is an unflinching look at a failed U.S. border strategy that many believe violates fundamental human rights.
