Kathak dance costume - $10 per kid

Dear all,

Thanks for attending the rehearsals on tuesday and wednesday.

We shall have our dress rehearsal this saturday. I will send you the details shortly.

Yesterday we picked up the Bengali dress costume for Kathak dance from Sangitaji.

Cost for renting the whole set is $10 per kid. Each set includes a saree, blouse, sashes and belt.

Please make sure you have all of them... i know 3 of you didn't get the blouse yet... i will try to get them by this saturday. Meanwhile try it out with your own red blouse for Saturday rehearsal.

Sanjitaji also taught us how to tie the saree (which is regular indian style tied 3 inches high from the feet) with 8 pleated pallu which must be pleated and pinned before hand.

Pallu will be wrapped around the waste and pinned to the side. Sashe will be worn on top of the saree (pinned appropriately near the front pallu) and the belt will go on top of it.

Sarees length and blouse fittings must be done before hand too.

Please make sure the kids practice their dances daily.

Hi Supriya/Sushma,

In case you have the picture of Shiana wearing the saree, could you please fwd it. In the video it's not very clear how to do the pallu.

We all need to fix the saree length for tomorrow's rehearsal  To fix the length, you can do long hem with cream thread so that it is not visible. Hem it till the point  where pleat of the saree end. Do not shorten the length till the end otherwise we need to open it for pallu. If we do not shorten, then while putting the pleat, it will be too much to insert and its very inconvenient for the kids as long tucked-in part bothers them a lot. For shortening the saree, wipe the dining table clean and then spread the saree on the top and fold it to desire length and then do long hem. Make sure you have 5 to 6 inches to tuck-in while fixing the length of the Saree.

It will be very difficult for kids to wear and pin for Aarush'si height and shorter withouut fixing the length. For Neeha and Anjali it might be OK.

I will try to pin for Aarushi tonight.  If you need help with pinning the Saree, you can come to my place tomorrow at 10, I can help you with that.
If you want tonight late night I am fine, but we need to fix the length before pinning, so thought morning will be easier.

Also we need white or cream legging to wear under saree. For wearing saree, we need string, called nara also, to tie around waist.

About Jewelry and make-up, I will check with Sangeeta and let you know after tomorrow,s rehearsal.
