key and mode criteria

Hello,

I am writing a review of the MSD for the Journal of the Society for American Music, and am wondering about the criteria used for determining key, mode, and the confidence estimations for both. I understand how the chroma vectors are derived, and I understand the values for key, mode, and confidence, but I am wondering how exactly the former lead to the latter.

Hi Christopher,

since the MSD was built by calling the Echo Nest API, they will be in a better position to answer that question. I do not know their exact algorithm and how much is public.

(note: I think the MSD was done using their API v3, instead of the current v4)
