Million Hearts Competitors:

I know this is more of a tech forum, but with the wrap up of the competition I wanted to give some shout outs to our team members:

• Consumer Research -- Mike spent two days in 103 degree weather in the parking lot Wal*Mart to ask 200 people about their heart health and phone usage (check it out at the 1:13 mark http://vimeo.com/lyfechannel/heartpartner).  This is the reason we made a TXT companion to our app that could perform the HRA, but also hand off to the full app.

• Project Management -- Ariel who led the coding team worked round-the-clock to hit all the shifting deadline.  Whoever says there aren't any women in tech has never met this powerhouse.

• Text Program - Jackson was initially on the hook for the TXT version of the HRA and didn't stop until he delivered 15 Unique companion TXT experiences including the HRA, lifestyle and food (great touch with the local food lookup!) Check out his work: http://vimeo.com/lyfechannel/text

• Content Partners - when Jennifer signed American Diabetes, Healthline, Humana, Digitas Health and Abbott as initial content providers for our experience, we thought she had locked in the WOW! award for this project, but just this past Friday when she delivered a voice recording of "The Coach" Ditka less than two months after his own heart attack with a "Don't forget to get your blood tested!" message that got pushed to people's phones (both text and app), she got a standing ovation in our office.  Check out her great work:  http://vimeo.com/lyfechannel/content

Thanks again to a great team and the tireless dedication to the great cause of heart health!

Onward and upward!

Dave,

Very classy.  It sounds like your team pulled out all the stops.

Did you guys really do all this stuff as part of the competition?  Makes me feel a little better about not making the top 5.  I like your jab at the "quantified self" nuts of NorCal...oh, wait, I'm one of those.

Is your text program live?  Are you going to submit this to the app store?  Could you post the recording from Ditka?

Capitan,

Thanks for the kind note.

Yeah, the text program has been live since 10/31 -- although at the end it only offers to send you an email with your detailed HRA.  When the app is live it will also give you a link to the app and a CODE that will transfer your results.  Send me an email and I'll send you the short code.

All the other 15 text programs are also live (plus a doc finder and a diagnostic center finder) -- we were holding off on promoting them on the chance we might make the top 5 and wanted to have some extra GAS IN THE TANK in support of our program.  Now we just have a whole bunch of tanks full of gas.  Do you live in one of the cities?  The Mayo program is pretty cool and the local food is from two restaurant ratings partnerships we struck that track heart healthy food.

We will submit to the app store -- we originally submitted on 10/14 and had set up the "EXPEDITE" path, but then when the deadlines got pushed back we held the release.  We've made some cool upgrades since then and are about to submit them.

I think the agreement with Ditka doesn't include the random posting of his voice, so it's probably not cool to post it here -- again, shoot me a message and I can send it to you.

Thanks again for the team praise -- keep fighting the fight,

Dave
