Hello everyone,

I am Matthew Hase-Liu's mom.

FYI only, but those four contests were provided by Math Enrichment class last year addition to AMC 8 &10A, MathCounts, and MO, but none of the followings will not be provided this year.
Anybody interested?  Have you contacted your child's Math teacher about these competitions?

Thanks,
Miyuki

I have been trying to ask questions to the teacher but maybe because she is a new teacher, I never got any answers.
I think we should do our own reaearch on those contests, form our own teams, and then (if necessary) get approval by the school.
(on 2nd thought, I am not sure if this is a good idea. if the school has a plan already, they will not be happy we form our own teams)

Hello Eric,

Thanks for your reply.

I assume all the contests will be provided at Miller this year are on the FAQ page.
http://www.edline.net/pages/Joaquin_Miller_Middle_School/Academics/Math_FAQ
As of today, they are MO, AMC8 &10A, Harker, and MathCounts.

Those four contests I've mentioned at the previous post were to registered thru School.

I looked at CAML website if Miller had registered this year.  It has not registered yet as you can see at the following link.
http://old.mathleague.com/reglist/REGCA.HTM

If we can find enough volunteers to be proctor, I can ask Mrs. Manolescue (my son's Math Teacher and she was the teacher for ME class last year) if she can help us to register.
Mrs. Manolescue told Pranav and Matthew that she is not available after school (she has twin babies.)
If your child's Math teacher is Miss Hardy, I'd appreciated it very much if you could ask her about these contests.
Miss Hardy is organizing most of Math Competitions this year.

Thank you!!
Miyuki

Hi Everyone,

I bumped into Mrs. Chan at school today (she was Matthew's Math teacher
when he was in 6th grade), and asked her if there is any way Miller can
sponsor those math contests if parents can help.
She said that if we would send her a list of the competitions we are
interested in, she can discuss it with other teachers.
I briefly mentioned to her about this group too.

1) Which competitions are you interested? If you have anything to add
to the list, please do so.
BAMO
http://www.bamo.org/

2) If Miller can sponsor one or more competitions (sponsor= offering a
room for the competition and help us to register it), how many of us are
available to be proctor/helper on the competition day?

Please let me know at your earliest convenience.
Thanks,
Miyuki

Miyuki,

Thanks a lot for your effort. This is a big progress!!
I think we should ask the parents of students who would like to participate, to proctor/help a contest at least once.
What do you guys think ?

Thanks Miyuki!

If I remember right, last year in ME class, they also did Atlantic Pacific contest.
Do we need to choose couple contests from this list?

thanks,
Shree.

Hi,

Shree, thanks for the reminder.  I completely forgot about the Atlantic Pacific.  We shall add this on the list too.

We don't have to choose couple contests from the list, but I'd like to give them our preferences.

For example, for Matthew, he'd like to do BAMO and CMAL (For CMAL, addition to regular CMAL, there is Algebra contest too) mostly.
Thanks!
Miyuki

Hi Miyuki:

Thank you so much ! I also think that the parents of the students who will participate can proctor the contest.

Thank you!

Yes, I agree that most parents of students that will participate will be willing to proctor the contests.

Thanks,
Xiaochun,  Stephanie's Dad

Hi,

I finally asked Andrew to look into those contests. He is interested in CMAL and Purple Comet.
I should be able to help some contests.
