Hello good people,

We met last Saturday as discussed at the Upper Hill springs Nairobi. We had a great time together and those in attendance were the following:

1) Japheth Tirop,
2) Francis Nasyomba,
3) Marh Rutto,
4) John Rono,
5) Martin Akolo,
6) John Rono's uncle Samwel (I think), he left the Seminary in 1993!!!

Others were:
7)  Leonard Kipruto. Leonard actually came in the earliest.
He was at the venue by half past two in the afternoon, at least two hours before all of us and I would like to extend our sincere apologies to him for that because he landed into trouble (lost Kshs. 1, 000) to cops as he was coming back to the event from seeing his cousin at Nyayo estate.
8) Allan Otieno also came early, second to Leonard but had to leave and attend a cousin's graudation party.

In attendance (in spirit):
9) Matthew Bett, one guy who am very sure missed the event badly as he kept sending text messages as from 2 p.m Kenyan time until Japheth and I had to call him and tell him to calm down :)
10) Antony Situma, was also in our presence in mind. He sent a message on Facebook which I missed because I did not check my mail at the time. He also wanted to call in and talk to guys in the meet up.

The main reason for drafting this mail is to inform our former classmates of whatever little decisions we made during the occasion. We made two major decisions:

I) We should meet more often and know each other's welfare. I suggested this from something else we resolved to do with my cousins i.e we visit each other at least once every three months. We do this RELIGIOUSLY even if it is just to go and have tea or watch T.V in one us' home. In addition, we have opened an account and decided to contribute just Kshs. 100 ( approximately 1 USD or Euro ) per head in each meeting for future needs / emergencies that may arise. It works perfectly for us for all the social reasons.

II) The other decision came from something else I picked from my larger (extended) family my dad's side. We have a small investment group now actually a registered private company. What guys do is have meetings once in two months and they discuss some investment opportunities they have seen in the past and present. If they are viable, people contribute towards it, for instance if it is a piece of plot available in Isinya / Kitengela worth Kshs. 375, 000 we divide the total amount with the number of active members. If they are about 30, everyone is expected to give an average of Kshs. 12, 500. You can give more or less depending on your ability and wishes. At the end of the day once the piece of property is acquire you have equity / ownership up to and including the amount that you gave as contributions to its purchase. This is expressed as a percentage, 10%, 5% and so on such that if the piece is sold in the future, you will get earnings in equal proportions.

In conclusion from the above,
=> The next meeting is scheduled to be in early March 2011 at Allan Otieno's residence. This is most likely to be in Roysambu, Thika Road. Japheth wants to make up and at least see Allan's daughter before she turns one :D

=> Francis Nasyomba is leaving his current employer where he is more involved with Accounts / Audit to go into Investments where he feels he has a higher passion and aptitude for. Personally I think he is the best person (Allan too since he is into private business ventures for a while now) to offer us guidance in what options we can go into and when / how. Personally I think this will be a great venue for us to achieve financial savings / securities in these hard economic times.

Please give feedback on these issues and if you know people's e-mails from the Y2k class that you suspect are interested and are not on this list, please send them to me and I will enroll them here. Have a wonderful time and God bless.

Regards,
Martin Akolo.

Good talk, good plans guys. As Marto said I really missed the whole thing, I always thought of  Tusker n Nyam chom. Anyway, I second the idea of real estate investment (as  mentioned, Plots), this is something that will always appreciate no matter what kind of economy comes on the way. We need to put down our own constitution(guidelines n officials) and get this thing rolling, now is the time, lets have fire burning and come out strong and support whatever we agree on. I am sure this will come out successful  I remember that unity we had that long...e.g. unity in burning the night oil and nothing deterred us despite the pressure to go to bed. Guys, lets get back to the road n invest, its worth the efforts. Later

Hi brothers,

That was good, very good. I support the decisions arrived at. Next
time I am in Nairobi, I shall try to assemble the group as well,
impromptu. The date indicated for March may still be elusive to me.

Mundu you should be the one to help us with the groups constitution and the registration of the companies, if that won't bother you so much.

Semeni tena majamaa,

I would also like to clarify some more issues. One of them is that we are not and we should not limit ourselves to invest in land alone. What we do in our other group is that guys are constantly scouting for opportunities. So just because most of our members are from the same rural area, people venture as far as going into activities like bee keeping and honey harvesting so long as it seems profitable enough or could benefit most of the members.

The other thing is that people should not shy away from trying out these "things" and contributing no matter how little. What happens on our side is that you are given some reasonable time to give cash, lets say four or so months. You pay up in installments ( 3 k a month ) up to the time you finish your obligation. Please give more ideas on how this "business entity" can be improved, am sure you guys have very fresh ones.

P.S: Wamalwa ukija January ( I hope ) tafuta watu tuone itakuwaje na hii maneno. We settled for early March because making budgets for January and February is usually tricky!

NICE WEEKEND.
