Applegreen is an Irish owned and run company that operates in the USA. Applegreen is seeking to recruit a Director of Policy for Electric Vehicles who will lead and manage all federal, state and local government relations activities for Applegreen Electric USA. The transition to Electric Vehicles (EV) is a key strategic priority for Applegreen, and we are embarking on significant investment in the area, given its importance for the future of our business.
Applegreen have a proven track record in the design and operation of world class EV charging facilities with over 600 EV Fast Charging bays in operation on our estate across the USA, UK, and Ireland. Applegreen provides over 1,000,000 fast charging sessions to its customers per year in a rapidly growing transition to more sustainable transport fuels with a range of early mover partners including Tesla, Ecotricity, Chargepoint and others. In 2019 Applegreen commenced owning and operating universal access Applegreen Electric Vehicle charging bays. This provides a seamless customer experience to all customers and ensures all EV drivers have equal open access to fast chargers irrespective of the EV car brand they choose to own.
The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible for representing the business at all levels of government and managing key legislative, regulatory and policy efforts. The ideal candidate will be an independent self-starter comfortable in a start-up program who can provide thought leadership and help shape the strategic direction of Applegreen Electric from a policy perspective. In addition to playing a lead role in Applegreen Electric, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for representing the broader Applegreen US business in the same forums as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- As Applegreen Electric evolves so too will the accountabilities of this role. The current duties include:
- Research and monitor government activities that could affect the business
- Advise the business on current, future and potential regulatory activities
- Identify policy opportunities that Applegreen Electric can take advantage of
- Represent Applegreen Electric at a variety of public forums, interacting with policymakers at federal, state and local levels across the US.
- Manage and deliver a clear communication plan for Applegreen Electric in response to future policy changes
- Review and represent the interests of the broader US business from a policy perspective, advising the business and owning the response to any future policy changes
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive experience in advocacy or public policy with a focus on transportation and energy.
- Demonstrable experience of effectively communicating and influencing at all levels of government with strong government contact at local, state, and federal levels already in existence.
- Ability to quickly build sustainable relationships with a variety of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate both verbally and in writing.
- Keen interest in electric vehicles and energy systems.
- Highly collaborative with a willingness to work hard to solve business problems.
- Proficiency in both technical and commercial communications; strong ability to simplify and isolate roadblocks.
- Comfort and experience working in high pressure and dynamic work environments.
- Ability to identify potential problems and resolve in a timely manner.
- High level of competence and comfort working both in teams and in isolation.
- Ability to travel across the US as required.
