Sowithin days of deciding that I really should sell my flatbed machines (since I own two amazing cylinder arm machines with beautiful flatbed table attachments), I did what any self-respecting leather worker would do - I bought ANOTHER flatbed sewing machine!
This new-to-me Tacsew T1563 was a curb rescue of sorts by way of Craigslist. The Tacsew T1563 appears to be a near perfect clone of a Juki 563 down to little details like oil drip guards, etc. I really like the large bobbin and reverse lever mechanism. It's actually in better shape (after a little cleaning & TLC) than my Consew 225 was when I got it. The mechanics are otherwise very similar to my Consew 225.
So now I'm looking for a Juki 563 manual just to have proper documentation, but the ones I've found online are either just okay or really bad quality, especially the pictures. If anybody knows of the whereabouts of good, clean Juki 563 manual in PDF or printed form (buy or borrow), I'd love to hear about it.
I'm also striking out finding much (any, really) information on Tacsew itself. Is this a rebadge outfit like Chandler or a standalone clone manufacturer/distributor? Where are/were they made? Any industry insider info would be appreciated.
This is usually a machine made in Taiwan, full copy of the LU-563. Nothing to do with Juki in any way, other than a copy of an older discontinued model by Juki. Should be pretty good when up and running.
In addition, the ratio between alternating vertical movements of the walking foot and presser foot remains unchanged even when the material thickness changes. Thanks to this feature and the adoption of a new method of rectangular feed that prevents needle from fraying, the DNU-1541 machine sew multi-layered parts of a material with consistent stitching pitch while preventing stitch gathering.
The vertical stroke of the presser foot and walking foot (amount of alternating vertical movement) can be easily changed with the large dial mounted on the top of the machine head. The sewing speed is automatically regulated based on the vertical stroke setting. This ensures ideal sewing conditions at all times.
With just a light press on the one-touch type reverse feed button, reverse feed stitching is actuated. Furthermore, if a suspended ruler is attached to the machine or a 3-dimensional sewing product is sewn, the button can be shifted upward to prevent interruption.
The machine's enhanced operability features include a clear view of the area around the needle, placement of the bobbin thread winder on the front face of the machine arm, and a large handwheel (φ160mm).
Since the needle thread tension-release solenoid is fitted on the rear face of the machine head, the area around the needle entry and one-touch type reverse feed button is easily viewable. This substantially contributes to improved operability.

Have you ever wanted to have perfect thread tension every time you sewed or quilted? Are you confused with how your bobbin case works or how to calibrate the settings? Sometimes those tension knobs at the top of your machine are confusing too! I have been in the same boat, but recently discovered a wonderful trick to help me achieve Perfect Thread Tension no matter what type of thread, fabric or batting that I decide to use! In this article, I will show you how I thread my Juki J350 Long Arm machine and what I do to get that perfect tension!
Unlike the top tension of a sewing machine or longarm machine, which requires significant rotational movement to adjust tension, turning the bobbin case screw 1/4 turn in either direction can have a large impact in bobbin tension. I was recently introduced to a nifty tool to help me calibrate my bobbin tension. The TOWA Bobbin Tension Gauge associates a numerical value for bobbin tension. It is easy to dial the bobbin tension in with each new bobbin or when swapping top threads. When I use my TOWA Bobbin Tension Gauge, in my quilting routine, I have saved time and it helps me to start each quilt with proper bobbin tension. Check out this video to see how easy it is to adjust the bobbin tension. Also check out this handy day reference chart by Superior Threads!
Proper needle thread tension is like a game of tug of war. When both sides are equal neither sides are winning. When one side is winning and one is losing your tension is off. The key to finding out which way to turn your tension dial is to find out what side is winning and losing. Is your top thread loose and bottom too tight? Or is your top thread tight and your bottom loose? One way that makes this easy to tell is to use a white piece of fabric to test with two different color threads that will show nicely against one another. The graphic below explains this nicely. I would actually suggest printing the below picture and keeping it with your sewing machine for a quick reference. Trust me it will come in handy!
I hope you have found this guide helpful in order to achieve the perfect thread tension for your machine! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments section and I will be sure to try and help!
Hi Nicole. I recently purchased a Jack H5 Walking-Foot Industrial Machine that has the same two-stage tension disc adjustment as above (items 2 & 3 on your diagram above. I have been unable to find any instruction on how to set the upper tension discs (Item 2), other than it being important. Can you help?
