I just joined. We live near Grand Haven. I am interested in starting
to use raw milk, but am not able to drive much. It's just my husband
and I and he doesn't drink milk but if a half share is too much I
could give the extra to my daughter.

Am just "getting my feet wet" so to speak. Have some kefir grains
coming by mail so that is one way I can use the milk! I have been
eating the Grassfield raw cheese for some time and love it. My dog
gets his piece everyday when I have mine.

Were you nervous when you first started drinking raw milk? Is here a
possibility that it might not agree with some people? Does it take
time to get used to? When I jump into this is there anyone who is
nearby who would like to share the driving?

Thanks for any replies,
Peggy

I remember being a little nervous about trying it. I have 3 young boys who
were 4, 6 and 8 when we started. We never had any troubles at all and we
LOVE it! My guys call it the "good milk".

I believe it's awesome for your stomach and digestive system and although
we've gotten the sniffles a few times in the past 1 1/2 years, we have not
been truly sick, which is saying a lot for a family with 3 small children.
I honestly believe it's due in part (if not all) to the raw milk and kefir
smoothies we have. I put kefir in everything I can think of: pancakes,
biscuits, etc...anything that I would use milk in I will often substitute
kefir for part or all of the milk. I know there's so much more we can use
it for, but that's what I'm doing at this point.

Wish we could share the driving, but we're in Northern Kent County area, so
we're in the wrong direction.

Enjoy your share and if you need ideas you can look up health books in the
libary system that can give you more ideas along with the ideas that come
from fellow raw milkers:-)

Hope this helps,
Jennifer

I know I am late in replying, but I just wanted to say that we absolutely
love the milk. Having five children, I was concerned that at least one
wouldn't care for it, but they all love it. When we switched to organic
milk while we didn't have pickup, they didn't care for it. My children are
10 and younger, and we have always struggled with flu and respiratory
infections at least once a winter. I'm happy to report that NOT ONE CHILD
got sick this winter, and I attribute it to the only change in our lives-
raw milk.

blessings,
michele thorson.

Thank you so much for your reply, Michele. I visited and brought home some milk and loved it. We are going there Friday to sign up and get our first share, "Lord Willin an' the Creek don't rise" :-)

Gave some to a daugher who lives near me and she is most likely also going to buy a share. I am trying to convince my daughter who lives in Allendale to try it. She's concerned about her children after reading a lot of negative things on the internet and I'll pass your response on to her, with your permission. Please let me know if it's OK.

My family has owned a share for about a year now. I have a fourteen
year old who refuses to drink it. But my other two children and my
somewhat legalistic picky eater husband loves it. My children have all
been pretty healthy in general anyways, except the one that
unfortunately won't drink it. I on the other hand have always had
health problems during the flu season. When I had my youngest I had
pneumonia the day she was born in February. Getting really sick around
February was like an annual event for me. This past year, I did not
get sick. I felt healthier this year than I have ever felt since
giving birth to my first child, the fourteen year old. Was it the
milk? I don't know for sure. But, when I look back over the year, that
is the only real change I made for myself healthwise. Oh, and I
finally made some butter with it. My kids were so excited. Even the
fourteen year old liked it. I can't wait for the cheese class this
year. If I start making things like cheese and butter with it on a
regular basis, I am going to have to talk my husband into at least
another half share. I haven't tried kefir yet, but that is a goal. My
family practically inhales the milk. We don't have much left over for
making things like cheese. Today is Friday and my pick-up day is
Tuesday. We are down to half a bottle.
