Does maps.army have the ability to export kml format? Looking to transfer the file to a system that reads XML.

Kevin, thank you for your question.

https://www.map.army has the focus to demonstrate how our Military Symbology Services can be implemented into a web application.

We deliberately have not added support of KML (KMZ) as an export format to this online demo application as there are some limitations within the definition of KML. However, we do internally have developed products that support KML/KMZ outputs. In addition, we do have a conversion tool for MILX to KML/KMZ.

Can you give us some details on your use case?

Hello:

I work at West Point in the Robotics Research Center and we also have the need to export to KML.  We want to use map.army to plan missions for robots, and then take the KML file and use that to make commands a robot can understand.  (e.g. robot:  follow this route to this release point--we need to extract GPS coordinates at a minimum)

Would it be possible, please, to share this tool to export the MILX format to KML? I say this because we could use it as a backup in our work and studies of war games in case there is any problem with the maparmy service during the work we are doing with it.

The MssDraw application provides the same functions as www.map.army and can be used to convert MilX-Layers into KMZ format.  

We would be happy to provide you a free version of MssDraw to test. The version would run until the 31.12.2023 and could be updated again after that date (no costs will apply).
