Any reason why black isnt a default color for lines?

Just considering it's used so frequently for friendly units. It is also sometimes a few extra steps to force some graphics to black lines.

Thank you for your question regarding the logic of symbol colors in https://www.map.army. All symbols are colored according to their affiliation in a default layer. This also includes tactical graphics. 
Once a layer has been approved by superior command it is set to "approved". Symbols and tactical graphics on an approved layer are displayed in black and white.

Please try to work with 'approved' status for layers:
map.army-set-Layer-to-approved.gif
