When I try and start Maya, both the launcher (see pic below) and Output Window open, but I'm unable to sign in to activate the product. As soon as I click "Sign in with your Autodesk ID," the launcher closes and nothing happens. I've tried reopening Maya and the same thing happens over and over again.

I have the same problem but i did all of the steps and no luck, help. I installed maya 2024 a few months ago with success, then decided to Uninstall a while ago but then reinstall it. Now this time I can't login, I tried every solution and none worked. I can't even login in autodesk access

I know this question has been asked before. I've seen the responses from 2015. I'm using a mac and magic mouse. Is there anyway to navigate with out the 3 button mouse? I don't mind just going to a navigation window but I can't seem to find it in Maya. The site macprefs that is frequently referenced no longer works to make an apple magic mouse a 3 button mouse.

The tutorial I was watching online (not the one you sent) says that the middle button is to be able to move side to side on the screen and the right mouse button can be used to also do a few things. Magic mouse on apple mac on Mac Sierra does not give you the option for a middle button. That is why I asked if there was away to be able to just navigate on the maya program itself.

I had the same issue and had been using my Wacom mouse (that has 3 buttons but is nowhere near as comfortable to use as the Apple mouse) and after seeing this thread gave the Better Touch Tool a try. Works great!

He's referring to the View menu in the modeling window. Hope this helps. I've got the same problem with my magic mouse. You can also change the mouse settings, in System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click > turn on 'Secondary click' (click on right side). Now when you click on the right side of your mouse, you can get the floating menus, etc. in Maya.

I'm a computer programmer, interested in 3D modelling / texturing / lighting. I have used Maya in the past in school but do not own a license. The cost for Maya makes sense if you can justify it as required tool for your job, if you make money out of it. I feel like there is a market gap here. I enjoy doing 3D personal work but I don't make money out of it and thus, the cost is too prohibitive. Any chance to add a hobbyst license in the future? Maybe a 50% discount if you don't use it for commercial purposes? For people who aren't students or working professionals, doing 3D, while very exciting feels a little too prohibitive.

Has this changed recently? I would like to use a free version of maya for hobby purposes. When trying to download I need to specify where I'm enrolled. But I already graduated Where can I get this student/hobby license?

Just because it's a hobby doesn't mean there's any entitlement to free/nearly-free stuff. Like every other hobby, less money invested on your part will mean less that you can do, and vice versa. Heck, I'd like to fly helicopters as a hobby... where's my free whirlybird?

There's a few options available. You can use Maya LT, which has a lower cost albeit with fewer features. There's some other low cost programs by other developers (I'll let you do the research on that). You might also want to look at Autodesk Fusion 360; while it's not an animation package it does have a lot of modeling features, some rendering, and is free for hobbyists.

Short answer: go with Blender.
It's unfortunate because I was once an avid user of Autodesk products, but their licensing and cost got stupid. If Autodesk ran their licensing like game engine (i.e. UE, Unity,) then I'd be okay using their products once more; but I don't ever see that happening.

I just go done asking Autodesk to create a Hobbyist price. Because I want to use Maya, I dont mind paying, but 215 a month is out of my price range for a hobby. Hopefully, Autodesk can create a Hobbyist license that is in-between Pro and Educational.

there is a way to get a cheaper license from maya now, as i believe they have made it so you have to prove education enrollment now. its about a 300$ish a year subscription with the rule that you can not make more than $100k per year off of it. I dont remember the link but if you look up maya indie license that should get you there

I had this program running before on my PC with no issues. Unfortunatley I had PC issues and had to do a clean install. So now, after downloading Maya and installing it, I always get this message and it does not save my preferences. Every time I open it, it goes back to the default settings.

No, I don't get any other messages. Not sure you can see the image that I've attached (I can't!) so I'm writing the warning message here: "Warning: file....(where folder is located).....Maya2019/scripts/startup/preferencesWnd.mel line 100: Not all preferences were saved. See script editor for details." This shows up in the right bottom corner.

Another thing, when you open Maya for the 1st time, you get this window showing you what's new- then you have the option to uncheck the box where it says "don't show me this again". I uncheck that and... next time I open it, it's there again! It just doesn't save anything at all.

The message is telling you that there was a problem saving files. The most common cause of that is if you do not have write permissions on the directory to which it is trying to save (usually your Documents/ directory). The information in the script editor tells you exactly what the problem is. You can get to it from the menu "Windows -> General Editors -> Script Editor". This failure is also what would cause your "What's New" to reappear every time you open Maya as the "don't show me this again" information is also stored in the preferences.
