Some parts of life are slowly returning to normal. I say slowly because in the US it does look like there will be a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic this summer. Luckily we will always have comic books to entertain us. After the spring drought there is a lot to looks forward to. Star Wars is still one of the biggest franchise in comic book land, but others such as Blade Runner, Stranger Things and Cyberpunk 2077 are making a splash. So below is a Summer 2020 comic roundup of all those I am looking forward to into September. The release dates however should be taken with a grain of salt.

Doctor Aphra has been revamped by Marvel Comics into a new series written by Alyssa Wong and as artist Marika Cresta. The cover artist is Velentina Remenar. Despite the Aprils stop to comic releases the first issue did see its release on May 4th. You can find my review here. The second issue is scheduled for July 22nd and I fully intend on making Doctor Aphra a regular feature. Its a fun Indiana Jones style adventure set in the Star Wars Universe. Oddly enough I cannot find a cover for issue # 2 while the subsequent issues do have one.

Star Wars Bounty Hunters was last week the first comic series to return. the series follows a wide variety of bounty hunters found in Star Wars lore such as Bossk and Boba Fett. Valence is also one of them and he is after his former mentor Nakano Lash as she betrayed him. Issue # 4 will see Valance and the others close is in one Lash. It is written by Ethan Sacks and is set for a August 19th release.

To tie us over to the November 19th, the new release date for Cyberpunk 2077, we will get a comic book story from Dark Horse Comic. The rather suggestive title Trauma Team indicates plenty of violence and gore. The dust jacket confirms that: Nadia, an assistant EMT for a privately-owned business known as Trauma Team International, is the sole survivor of a failed rescue mission turned shootout. After she agrees to continue work for an upcoming extraction mission, Nadia and her new team find themselves in an even more dangerous and life-threatening situation. The first of four issues is set for September 9th. The writer is Cullen Bunn. I consider this to be another highpoint of the Summer 2020 comic roundup.

I read this for the Wyrd & Wonder event back in May. I bought it last year because I like the cover and kept seeing it everywhere, so I gave in to temptation and my curiosity and gave it a try. Luckily, I enjoyed it.

We came at this from different directions, me having watched Critical Role for some time and getting excited when I learned they also had comics, but we both ended up at the same place, enjoying the comic. ?

Fire Power was first announced in December 2019.[2] The series was originally intended to be published with an original graphic novel (OGN) prelude in April 2020, followed by a free first issue in May as a part of 2020's Free Comic Book Day (FCBD). The idea was that the free first issue would result in customers buying the Prelude OGN. This was a concept Kirkman came up with after discussing with comic store owners about ways to make Free Comic Book Day better for them. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancelation of FCBD, these plans had to change.[3] The FCBD issue was rebranded as the Fire Power #1 promotional edition and released on the same day as the Prelude OGN in early July. The standard edition of Fire Power #1 came out in August, containing special features not included in the promotional edition.[4]

Kirkman and Samnee worked well ahead of schedule on the series. In a July 2020 interview, Kirkman mentioned that the first twelve issues were already complete, some of which are extended beyond standard length.[5] The series is scheduled to end with its thirtieth issue.[6]

Adrian Tomine's chilly, clean, black-and-white penmanship lends an air of unsettling poise to Sleepwalk, his second collection to be published in the UK. The stories here are short, inconclusive, shot through with pitch-dark humour and a distant compassion that reminds one at times of Raymond Carver. A young man is left in the middle of nowhere after crashing his car; an old woman eats lunch every day in hers, remembering her youth; a voyeuristic couple see something terrible in the sex games of the people next door. Some of the stories are only a page long. All are visually stunning. Most feel absolutely essential.

Spain Rodriguez is best known as the creator of Trashman, a legendary far-left underground comic character best described as a cross between Mad Max, Karl Marx and the Punisher. In Che, he brings his distinctive blend of delicate detail and relentless motion to the tale of another somewhat famous Communist adventurer, producing a gleefully partial view of Guevara's life that manages, despite didactic passages shoehorned in from the Collected Works, to hum with activity and design inventiveness from first page to last. It's a blend of realism and stylisation that lights up the form, a positive masterclass in visual narrative. Whatever your politics.

Summary: Leonardo support for collaborative AI workflow in UX design Udio: new AI generative music Clear beats clever in UX Hackathon to grow team skills: Example of an AI feature AI enables new and more flexible business KPIs for UX work

If you work in a team, I encourage you to sign up for a trial (the service is currently in beta). The future of AI requires system thinking to support workflows and not just great usability for individual tasks. This again means that you should gain early experience with using AI across your team and not just for individual work.

To be honest, Leonardo is not my top image-generation AI tool. I use Midjourney, Ideogram, and Dall-E more often, but Leonardo is a solid 4th. In my recent study of the AI tools used the most by UX professionals, Leonardo came in as number 16. Solid placement, but not the very top.
