John’s idea epitomizes my not so original ideas from very early in this journey.As I have mentioned before, the Town and Milford’s residents make up a FAR more balanced ‘load’ and would make a more attractive ‘market group’ together due to the inherent balance between the two.Emily says that the Town could go onto the Community Power plan but residents could NOT climb aboard the Municipal Power Program.Hope that isn’t reversed but am fairly confident it’s straight. While the old Standard Power of America had really good support for the smaller customers; did not see the same support after the original crew were terminated after the merger.If we do not see the value in ECM {not EMC} Power’s offer we have enough time to see what other aggregators have to offer. The MEAC [Milford Energy Advisory Committee] members are checking market rates frequently but do not have the same insight as do the professionals in this area. The State chart lists the EVERSOURCE default rate as the lowest electrical power supply cost [please see the chart just below].Originally had the concept of buying short term high market positions and longer term less expensive market positions.Our ideal scenario has always been to have the lowest cost and most stable electrical power supply rate possible. The Community Power system allows us to buy any time the market is favorable.Honestly the way the Municipal Power and the Community Power programs are set now, a community is not readily able to move flexibly with several overlapping contracts and really leverage our combined larger and more balanced load.One idea which still, in my opinion, might well be worthy of some consideration is to have ECM Power contract our larger and midsized
business just to collect their usage numbers and get a ‘soft quote’ for that much higher number of kilo Watt hours of supply. Given this much larger number we could potentially net everyone in Town a bit of savings. Yes, Mr. Dargie is correct, the larger users have contracts already. However every contract ends at some point. If our combined rate saved large businesses part of a penny per kWh used, some people could save a significant amount.If the savings is as small as 1/10th of a cent per kWh, that is the same rate we pay our aggregator now. 50 million kWh X 0.01 =

Hey Lori,
Appreciate the response and looping us in on the town's community power program discussion with EMC Power. A couple quick things I wanted to note:
- Timing: The Milford Community Power rate was locked in prior to the energy market spikes from the brutally cold winter and Iran conflict, making it advantageous in the short term but with no long-term budget certainty security. With that said, it only extends until November 2027 meaning that Milford will need to shop for a new Community Power rate in the next 12 months.
- Load Factor: Community power programs typically apply one blended rate across all participating residential and commercial accounts. If the municipal buildings have a strong load factor (steady, consistent higher usage), they likely will be able to obtain better pricing on their own. Large aggregations essentially create winners and losers, small users with less attractive load profiles (like residential) typically benefit while larger users with attractive load profiles subsidize the smaller users and pay higher prices than they might have otherwise. We'd be happy to run this analysis at no cost so you can see exactly where the municipal buildings land and which route is most cost-effective.
The last thing I wanted to mention, I know our relationship is still new following the transition from Standard Power, but I'd welcome the chance to properly introduce myself and the company to you and the Energy Committee, whether that's a quick call, or coming by in person to put a face to the name.
