Onlyfrom yesterday, my mouse's touchpad has stopped working. Post this, I have installed the latest synaptics touchpad drivers from HP, Synaptics and other websites but my touchpad is unmoved. Few peculiar things I noticed were:
1) Latest Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is installed on my Laptop, yet only the touchpad doesnt work. My keypad works fine though. Moreover, the touchpad light isnt working. It is off and doesnt change despite pressing the left part twice.
2) In device manager, there is no mouse (earlier synaptics was visible). After this problem, just an unknown device is highlighted. I tried installing many drivers for the unknown device, but it doesnt get installed anyhow.
Hi, my laptop is a HP pavilion gaming 15-ec1015ns.
The problem is that the touchpad only works in live cd, but it doesn't work when the OS has been istalled.
In the other hand the touchpad which is a "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" is only recognized when I used the i8042.nopnp flag in boot option, but even when recognized it doesn't work.
xinput shows it, libinput list-devices shows it, but it won't work, any help?
Thanks.
You should can try one of two things the first is take a look here Touchpad_Synaptics once you have created the Synaptics conf reboot machine and you should be golden below is something similar that also worked in the past but the information in the first link is better
I'm having an annoying issue with my touchpad for my HP Pavilion x360 Convertible laptop, it isn't responding at all (no clicking, no moving cursor). I've had this laptop for a little over a year and had this exact problem around half a year ago, but it went away without me knowing why. It recently popped up again this month, but I tried going to Device Manager to disable and enable the touchpad (1 to make it work. This method would only work if I disabled the touchpad and then pressed down on the touchpad for a bit and then enabled it. I don't think this method broke the touchpad (I used this method half a year ago and it still worked perfectly after the problem ended). I hope there are no internal problems (I don't see any external), so I hope I can find a solution here.
In device manager, the I2C HID Device has a yellow triangle next to it and my previously mentioned method isn't working anymore (of pressing down on the touchpad). When this error occurs, the touchpad option in my settings completely disappears.
Reinstall touchpad drivers and check
Open Device Manager. Right-click (or press and hold) the name of the device, then select Uninstall device. Select Uninstall and then restart your PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

My touchpad is not working, I've read many article and forums. When I go to my Windows 10 settings, Devices, Mouse & Touch pad, additional mouse options, there is no tab or option for the touchpad, only the mouse.
Wow, after tons of seraching you have given me the answer, a reset by pulling the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds, very simple and it worked like magic. Didn't have to update any drivers. I'm grateful, thank you GBL84!
This is the latest 17 inch HP pavilion with the latest Windows 10 fall update. The trackpad is playing up. I have tried uninstalling and reintalling drivers. I restart and it works, then left and right click stop, then double tap to click. Right now I can move the cursor with the trackpad, but that usually stops working after a while too.
Thanks for the reply. Reinstalling drivers did nothing, so I decided to refresh the PC instead, which has resolved the issue. Windows no longer recognises the trackpad as a 'precision trackpad', which seems to have been the nub of the issue.
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the cursor flickering at the lower left corner of the screen. Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
I have reviewed the post. Thanks for responding. You've done great here by displaying excellent technical competence, immense patience and a never say die spirit to take it to its logical conclusion. Kudos to you for a job well done. I am glad the refresh worked like a charm.
Now Trust me I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind. I genuinely hope the product works great and stays healthy for a long time. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you and to have worked with you.
My touchpad is not working properly. You can not control it. Sometimes when you want to move the cursor it stops moving, it opens suddenly the right click menu on desktop and you can not move cursor to a precise target. I have replaced earlier the touchpad because also the previous touchpad had similar symptoms. From February until now, it has worked as expected. Suddenly, during my working hours with laptop, it started glitching and not working properly.
My Windows 10 is up-to-date and also drivers are updated using HP Support Assistant.
This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the cursor moves on its own on your HP Notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
In the meantime, let's try these steps here: Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

The next thing, I would suggest here is to boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if the cursor moves on its own or not, If the cursor keeps moving on its own even in the Bios, then it's a possible hardware failure. If the cursor does not move on the Bios, then it's likely a software or driver issue, then you can try to update the Bios, graphics card drivers as well as touchpad drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
I'm having a strange problem. The spot you touch up top is not activating or deactivating the touchpad. It is as though it is not connected to the computer anymore. I already updated the drivers to try to fix, didn't work.
Under computer propersties>hardware, it shows up as Synaptics PS/2 port toucnpad, with the image of a mouse on the left, if that helps at all. When I right click on it I can't change any settings or properties.
And now my laptop keyboard doesnt work, but the logitech keyboard I previously installed with the computer does work, and operates the lights on the laptop keyboard as well. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, on mine, the keyboard works fine. But from time to time, all of a sudden Tap-to-click is disabled, and the mouse moves erratically towards the top right corner whenever I try moving it. Annoying as hell, sometimes restarting the computer helps, but others it doesnt and I end up using a USB mouse. Annoying.
Yea dude it sounds like your issue is a little different from mine. My touchpad stopped working completely. I'm just glad my keyboard is working again. It sure would be nice if those good ol support dudes could help me out
Thanks for your reply; however following this process did not work. In fact, my keyboard stopped working again after doing this. The keyboard started working again when I put the computer to sleep and promptly woke it up. Restarting did not fix it.
I got my HP ENVY 15t-q100 CTO Notebook PC in September, 2014. It has Windows 8.1, 64-bit. For the first few weeks of use, I did not have any issues. Then, I started having more occurences of cursor/touchpad issues to the point where it happens every hour of use (not an external mouse issue):
In January 2015 I received via mail, a brand new Envy 15t-q100 purchased from the official HP website. Both packaging and laptop arrived mint(cosmetically speaking). With that being said, I had experienced the exact symptoms described in this thread since day one. With an alternate synaptics driver, I was able to stabilize the mouse enough to effectively utilize the "pressure graph" tool. I then determined that this was indeed a hardware problem. I noticed that from time to time, the "animated tray icon" would indicate that pressure was being applied even when I wasn't touching the laptop. If I applied counter pressure by pressing or wiggling on the base of the palmrest, the pressure indication would cease and use of the mouse would return to normal. However, this problem gradually went from bad to worse and eventually the track pad failed all together. Firmware and BIOS reflashing was helping before, but was no longer changing anything. I debated on sending it back to HP for warranty repair, but after having to wait a month to get this unit in the first place in addition to reading all these horror stories of people getting back a semi destroyed unit and still struggling with the same symptoms, I was willing to tackle this myself. Sooo, I found a source for brand new replacement Envy "control zone" track pads. Ninety nine percent certain that I had defective track pad, I purchased P/N "761210-001" from ebay seller "parts_direct101" for $59.95. Upon disassembly, I discovered that one of the mounting screws for the track pad was loose (this may have contributed to the problem). I decided to replace track pad anyway. Finally. No more glitches. After months of experimenting and reading these forums, I now have a 100% functioning mouse! It has now been over 2 weeks since I've replaced the track pad and still no problems! I use my laptop 3-4 hours a daily. I am still using the alternate synaptics driver installed from "dpinst.exe" found in the "unzipped" x64 folder downloaded directly from the synaptics website. I haven't tried updating with windows update yet. Just happy to finally have a working mouse on this beast of a machine. I will keep you all posted if this problem ever returns. In regards to the ongoing lack of support aka automated generic responses from HP's "customer support team", I suspect HP has accidentally put out a bad batch of track pads and they simply cant "afford" the parts, labor, and logistics to issue a recall of this magnitude! Unfortunately this laptop must be completely disassembled to replace its track pad. I would NOT recommend this fix if you feel this is beyond your skill level. Instead call HP support and insist that you received a unit with a defective track pad. Hope this helps!
