Hello Everyone

We have another topic for discussion for which we'd like to have your
feedback.

We've been invited by the Autry Museum to host an informational booth
for our garden at their first annual Earth Day festival on May 1. This
could be an opportunity to do outreach for our garden and we'd need
gardeners to volunteer to staff the booth.

In previous years, we've participated locally in Lummis Day and the
Franklin High School festival with informational tables/booths for our
garden. This year we'll also participate in Earth Day activities in
April being organized by the Los Angeles Community Garden Council.

Historically, the Autry has had a strained relationship with our
neighborhood given the dismantling of the Southwest Museum. This issue
has served to polarize our community in some respects, and folks may
feel strongly one way or the other about the events of the past. (if
you do a google search, you'll find more posts about this than you
probably can read in one sitting)

We're interested in what you think about our garden being represented
at their Earth Day festival. My personal interest is in doing the
right thing and representing us well, and I can see both sides of the
argument.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Nicole

I would love for the garden to participate in an earth day event but feel that the Autry does not merit Milagro Allegro.

Don't see the point of going to Autry. The politics are a big part of it. I would rather give our all to the Lummis day event. In addition the
Autry  event will be huge and less local and therefore less appealing to me. Do we really have an issue with outreach? Seems like we have a long waiting list of people who want to be part of Milagro already. Rosemary plot 4

I would help at the booth on May 1st for a couple hours at the Autry. But I agree with Rosemary regarding whether we really need all the various outreach events. Maybe we just need to understand the reasoning behind them.

ln terms of the rest of it, we probably all stand by the saying, don't believe everything you read online- this holds true for the Autry as well, there are years of opinions written online by the loudest people, but these are just opinions and not from the most informed sources. As with everything online, take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. Based on what we've heard, we've
decided NOT to represent our garden with a booth at the Autry Earth
Day festival on May 1.
