Gents,
What is the story on the 6TL batteries if I need a couple?

Is there some other more common replacement available?

A quick Google search shows them for $208 + $65 shipping (ouch!).

These would be for a Goat.

Thanks!

Glen

Forget it.......pick up some Group 24 batteries......less than half the price.....go to your battery distributor and ask if he has any Group 24 seconds........dated.....batteries....usually I pick them up for 30 to 40 bucks....when available....

Thanks!

FYI: I've found even NOS 2HNs were garbage, I replaced them with group 24 and I've had NO battery problems.

I can get Interstates 6TLs in Livermore (CA) for about $120 per battery.  It's the best deal I have been able to find for our area.

I got 2 6TLs from Ellis Bros Battery an Interstare dealer here in St Louis for $125 each earlier this summer.

What capacity group 24 is the same as the 6TL? Which one is the same dimensions as the 6TL? Is there anything special about the 6TL vs the group 24 as far as construction goes? Ruggedness?

Can the submersible cell caps be bought and put on the group 24s or are there 'submersible' group 24s?

Thanks

The 6TLs are about twice as big as "normal" group 24s.  Nice thing about 24s is you get a warranty and they are hecka cheaper.

The problem with some modern military vehicles is that the battery tray is shaped for the 6TL which is square.  I found civilian batteries that would work but the problem is that they would fit in my battery tray unless I made a custom tray for it.  In case of my HMMWV, it was more trouble that it was worth.

As far as submersible battery goes, you can use the Optima batteries and someone also makes custom trays for them to fit in military vehicles.  The only drawback is. That they are expensive.

Find out the dimensions, and order a new battery from your auto parts supplier.    NOS is fine for hard parts, but batteries are perishable and wouldn't be too happy paying $$$ for ones that went flat in no time.

They wouldn't fit anyway, they're metric 6TLs.  :)

Hi Doug....

Hope you are well..

I had someone tell me there is a particular intercom box that can be wired
together to function without the VIC-1........not really wanting to deal
with all that in that A3 Cab...

Likewise to you.

I have been told the same thing. Supposedly it can be done just
using the crew boxes (C-2298) as they contain an internal amp.
I mucked around with them and failed, finding that the amp is
actually a pre-amp and does not lift power levels sufficient
to work the headsets.

Effectively you have to redesign the wheel and fabricate
a main amp. By the time is all said and done, it is cheaper
and way less work to just use the AM-1780 like it was
intended.

Doug

Hey all-I am clearing out my military radio stuff- I have a factory rebuilt
US military AN/UNH-17A audio recorder reproducer with all the accessories.

It is I excellent shape, when I got it- it was in the packaging from
Tobyhanna.

Uses regular cassettes, 2 audio tracks, auto gain or manual gain, variable
speed playback.

Includes vehicle mount, rack mount, ac and dc (24 vdc) power cables,
headphones and cable, hand mike, and foot switch.

I paid $700.00 for it, never got to install it, and I am getting out of the
hobby. I'm looking to get $500.00 for it, I will ship in the US for free.

If you want pictures, send me your email address.

Thanks
