I have just received the news that General George Patton's Personal
Bodyguard, Ron Sluder, will be attending our 3rd Annual Veterans
Appreciation Day Saturday the 28th of April! This is a chance to meet this
gentleman, shake his hand, take his picture, get his autograph and hear his
stories about this great General and his duties with him during WWII. This
is a bit of living history and you should make a real attempt to be there to
meet him if at all possible!

We have now confirmed more than six military vehicles will be there
including a WWII Halftrack. All of these vehicles, with the exception of
the halftrack of course, will be driven to our event from Greenville,
Spartanburg and surrounding areas. They have all been restored to their
original beauty by their drivers, who will be in the appropriate uniforms
for the era they represent. The halftrack does run and drive but we don't
think that the highway department would be too happy with the damage that it
would do to the streets! A lot of these vehicles will have the correct
military radios mounted in them and if we can we will talk 6 meters on them
to the CARES radio club who will be attending again this year.

This event is free to all. There is no charge what so ever to attend or to
set up a display or to set up to sell food or things that are appropriate
for this type of event. There will be tons of things for the kids to see
and do. There will be glass blowers, pottery makers, authors signing their
books, games for the kids, free prizes given away and tons of other things
that I can't remember and even if I did they would run too long for this
email! Please come and ask your families and friends to come too, it will
be a lot of fun without a doubt!

We are holding the even at the Military Veterans Museum on South Logan
Street in Gaffney South Carolina on the 28th of April from 0900 until????

Best Regards,

Ed

Really strange as Sgt. Major Joseph Poisso was supposed to be Patton's
personal bodyguard - a function he performed for over 30 years until
Pattons death.

An interesting bit of information that came up on a Google search.

The Natchitoches Times obits.
October 7, 1999 issue.

SGT. MAJOR JOSEPH POISSO
Funeral services for Sgt. Major Joseph Poisso, 93, of Dry Prong
were
held Thursday, October 7 at 2 p.m. in Hebron Baptist Church with the
Rev.
Richard DeBusk officiating. Burial followed in Iatt Cemetery under the
direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Mr. Poisso died Monday, October 4, 1999 in the VA Medical Center.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, a past member of American
Legion and an active member of the VFW. Sgt. Major Poisso was active
duty
military for 30 years during which he was General Patton's personal body
guard. He received the silver star and purple heart with oak leaf
cluster.
He was also in the active reserve for over 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lorie W. Poisso of Dry Prong; three
sons,
Michael P. Poisso of Dry Prong, Joseph R. Poisso of Washington, D. C.
and
Daniel Poisso of Ore City, Texas; four daughters, Gloria Everherdt of
New
Orleans, Josette Thames of Shreveport, Joette Phillips of Longview,
Texas
and Donna Cole of California; two brothers, Bentley Poisso of Colfax,
Nat
Poisso of Tullos; two sisters, Ozelar Lasyone of Galena Park, Texas and
Louelle Witherall of Pineville; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hebron Baptist Church.

It says that SGM Poisso was "active duty military for 30 years during
which he was General Patton's personal bodyguard." It does not state
that he was Patton's bodyguard for 30 years...just that he was in the
military for 30 years and was Patton's bodyguard. As mentioned earlier,
it is quite likely that Patton had more than one person assigned to him
as a bodyguard.
