> The Open Source Initiative seeks to hire a General Manager. This is a full time, permanent position, reporting to the Board of Directors. Primary responsibilities include:
>
> • Member recruitment
> • Fundraising
> • Coordination of public communications
> • Creating and managing a communications plan
> • Facilitating community involvement and activity (events, conferences, etc)
> • Managing the OSI Working Group process
> • Providing admin support for Board committees (especially the Trademarks Committee and License Review Committee)
> All of these responsibilities, but especially member recruitment and fundraising, will receive support and involvement from the Board and volunteers. Expectations for the General Manager in the first six months include:
>
> • Recruit at least 1000 new Individual Members in the first 6 months
> • Regularly publish the OSI Member Newsletter
> • Produce a proposal for an improved web site (revision schedule upon approval)
> • Raise $40k USD in corporate fundraising
> • Contact and communicate with each Affiliate Member
> • Ensure an active Working Group process
> • Create an annual budget and submit it for Board approval
> • Manage contractors (e.g., infrastructure contractors)
> • Organize Board meetings and generally support the Board's activities
> • Manage logistics of face-to-face events.
> We are therefore especially looking for prior experience managing contractors, budget management, fundraising in non-profit sectors, and working on membership programs. Applicants must be fluent in English and and proficient in written communications; fluency in other languages would be considered positively.
>
> Applicants need not be technically proficient in software development, but should fundamentally understand what open source software is and have some prior knowledge of the field, both technically and culturally.

Indeed -- OSI is hiring!

I'd be happy to answer questions from people here who either might be
candidates, or know someone who should be a serious candidate.

This will be the OSI's first hire. Whoever it is will have a big impact
on the organization, and hopefully help us to expand our mission-related
activities. It's a big step, and we plan to hire Someone Good! (I hear
they're in demand these days.)
