I literally stood in my kitchen with an open can of condensed Cream of Chicken Soup, and a pot of this homemade version, and took a spoon to each one to perform a very serious taste-test to compare the two.

Remove from heat. Add 1/3 of the chicken broth, whisk well. Whisk in 1/3 more, until combined. Finally, whisk in the rest. Temper the milk by microwaving it for 45 seconds, slowly add it to the saucepan and whisk to combine.

Cozy up with a bowl of this soup, alongside a fresh salad and a warm slice of homemade artisan bread, for a meal that will leave you feeling satisfied, but not weighed down. If lightened-up comfort food is what you crave, be sure to try my creamy butternut squash mac and cheese, too!

Cooking down the onion, carrots, and celery is a key step in the recipe. After you cook them down, add flour and your herbs. The flour will absorb the liquid from the softening vegetables, and create a nice thick base for the soup. This is exactly how we start biscuit vegetable pot pie, too.

This creamy chicken noodle soup is creamy yet light, and benefits from the addition of potato, flavorful thyme and oregano, and convenient pre-cooked rotisserie chicken. You can make it on the stove or slow cooker (see Note for slow cooker instructions).

It injects flavour and seasoning right into the flesh of a whole chicken in a way that no other method can, even by slathering liberally with herb and garlic butter under the skin which is my favourite non-brining way to roast chicken.

Someone may have mentioned it but too many comments to read. Two more tips from Tomas was he used clarified butter and he let the chicken dry in the fridge for 2 or 3 days to make it even crispier.

American Friend: This is not a good description I need to know what this is LOL. You can't say something like crack sauce to a hardened Philadelphian and expect me to know that it doesn't contain crack lol

As no one wants to fuss with shopping for tomato powder and dried chicken fat, this homemade version goes in the direction of my original assumption, rather than sticking to "this is how they do it".

Things like cake and dip went into the cooler, eventually being used to perfect recipes like my Homemade Deep N Delicious Cake and Dill Pickle Cream Cheese Dip - a VERY accurate version of the Philadelphia brand favourite.

So anyway, when working up my version, I had a cup of ready made from the restaurant, a packet of the stuff they sell in stores - AND a 5 lb bag of the dry mix the restaurants use - on hand as source material.

I love Swiss chalet sauce, people either love it or hate it, no middle ground in that issue up here. I am going to rub the package sauce mix in my small chicken for dinner tonight, sadly I will not have there amazing French fries to dip in the sauce, it goes so well together,

I made this sauce tonight! I am Canadian and regularly buy the dried packets to mix. My mom has a recently diagnosed garlic allergy though, so I went looking for a recipe I could modify just slightly to make it work for her. I omitted the garlic and used horseradish in it's place (a common garlic substitute for allergies). It turned out AMAZING! My husband who is a drinker of sauce tried it and said it was spot on for him too.
Thank you for the work in developing this recipe and thank you for sharing it! I truly appreciate it!

Hi, can you send a link to your preferred brand of summer savoury? I've never heard of it, or used it, and there were multiple brands on Amazon. I know that spice blends can vary, so I want to get it right! Looking forward to trying this in Michigan!

I'm snowbirding in the US and was craving Swiss Chalet. Came across this recipe and gave it a go. It is so delicious and tastes almost identical to Swiss Chalet dipping sauce. Thank you so much for posting, I have enough to freeze for next time!

A one-pot recipe of rice, chicken and smoked sausage cooked in a flavorful stock made from slow-cooked chicken. Includes bonus instructions for making a BIG BATCH with 25-30 servings!JUMP TO RECIPE This dish is something I spent my whole life thinking everybody on earth knew about and loved. And if not on the whole planet, then in the US, at least.

Whereas the Chicken Bog is almost creamy because it uses a more liquid and is somewhat, well, boggy. NOTE: I screwed around and spilled a good bit of my chicken stock so this one finished a little drier than usual. The next time I make it, I will update the photos so you can see the slight difference.

I made this today with great results. Some commenters said their chicken was dry. I used a chicken with one of those pop up thermometers. It popped up around 3-1/2 hours on high in my crock pot. So maybe you can use that as a guide on cooking time for a juicier bird.

looks like a tasty recipe, but I would recommend slow cooking breast side down so it can absorb some of the juices, and then flip and broil to crisp the skin. This is similar to the upside down turkey method that works so well for keeping the white meat from drying out.

Tried this recipe using 8 chicken drumsticks, only! UM-Um good! The chicken was very moist and flavorful. I followed the directions with only 1 small variance: i drizzled d oil over my drumsticks prior to doing the rub. Cooked in my slow cooker on High for 3.5 hours. Chicken turned out crispy, golden brown! Love it!

My favorite, easiest-ever roasted chicken recipe! No butter or oil necessary, just a good quality chicken, salt and pepper. I like to serve this incredibly crispy, juicy chicken with a simple green salad and potatoes, or slices of my no-knead crusty artisan bread.

About an hour and a half later, the bird is crispy and beautiful! And the house smells AMAZING. I slide it out of the oven, let it rest for 10 minutes and sprinkle with fresh thyme. Carve it up and serve it with a big green salad and roasted potatoes or crusty bread.

Been making different versions of this recipe for years, so thank you for all the great meals! I made this for our eclipse party yesterday to go with Asian-marinated grilled chicken. This time, I swapped out your spices for 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tbsp. parsley flakes, and kept the salt and pepper. I also added a small diced onion and 1/2 cup of pine nuts that I sauted with the rice and butter.

Thanks for the info. I am catering a dinner for 30 and making rice so the timing is perfect. love addig the orzo. Going to add some charred grape tomatoes to the rice just before serving for a pop of colour.

Hi, my name is Annabelle.
I am a sight challenged woman who absolutely loooooooooooooooooooooooooooves to cook! I love rice, and I love rice pilaf. But I especially looooooooooooooooooooooooooove Rice-a-Roni. This being said, I wonder, can this recipe be made in something like a crockpot? If so, how would I do it?

oh wow that looks amazing. Totally agree with you on the chicken we always buy free range organic in England but have to say even then the chicken is no where near as good as the Portuguese chicken we have purchased.

I wanted to ask how the bay leaves are incorporated into the sauce. Are they just left whole to add flavor to the other ingredients as they marry, or is actually broken up and incorporated into the sauce?
