Very good outing this past Sunday with 'ole Milky leading the way on a fat bike with full pants and his signature red and black heavy shirt in the warm sun...bright enough guy but that clever some days....the Nipika trails are very fun with the north trails very flowy without much up and down but super tight and fun as you cruise way above the Kootenai River (do not look left when going fast or your mangled corpse will be fished out miles downstream)....amazing views and around 14 km on the Kootenay Krusher loop from the Nipika Mountain Resort parking lot.
The south trails were much hillier with tons of options to create a one to three hour set of loops. Much more climbing and a lot of it in the trees. Also great fun. Downside is that it is a 2.5 hr drive from Lakeview area to the resort parking lot (you need to turn left on Settlers Road as the resort is not marked on the highway). Great trails for beginners to expert.
This Thursday, we are obviously limited to trail selection due to the crazy amount of rain...options are basically the Elbow Valley Trail from Ing's Mine up to Powderface and back around OR a couple of loops on Prospector in Exshaw. Thinking the former as some of the work done in Exshaw is still pretty new and trashing the work of the local volunteers would not be cool.
Let's meet at 6:15 at Ing's Mine and hit up Elbow Valley for some exercise. I can certainly go earlier if that is the preference. Just a heads up that our rides are very sparsely attended this year due to injuries, out of town summer long vacations by rich, retired oil and gas dudes and the wet weather. We need to pick it up to keep this group alive notwithstanding that everyone is busy.....we have some new riders but they have other rides for different nights as well. We can look at different days than Thurs and Sunday and we are always open to ride suggestions. If the general pace is too slow in this group (or too fast) for you, no hard feelings. I want to keep this going as I am sure you do.
Alternatively, given that I go out almost all Thursdays and Sunday (as does Scotty when he is in town), we can forego sending out ride notes and rely on people to check in when they want to ride. We are all ears on suggestions. 25 years and counting on this group so let's not let it die.
