Old School ride on Sunday this week w a dash of new trails....Daniel and I headed out from the Ranger Station parking lot precisely at 9:30, bumped it up the highway to Station Flats (where the new parking lot is rounding into shape, although it looks like a site for a new Costco - huge) and headed right at the trail head over the bridge and on to Diamond T. Short trundle from there to the new Race of Hearts (known as ROH for riders who actually show up to ride the trails) for a trip up to the intersection with Pneuma. From there we rode up for 10 minutes on Pneuma to the intersection w Moose Mountain Road, crossed over and rode Family Guy to the top through the punchy steep sections, popped out on the road and headed up to the Special K intersection w Pneuma which by-passed the gnarly rocky uphill section on Pneuma.
A really fun downhill on Pneuma with some really light drizzle followed by a fast and somewhat slick downhill on Moose Packers, which is still as good a forested downhill as you will see. I managed to dump it twice, however. We then had a superb run on Ridgeback 4 which was fast and tight and then slow and painful when we climbed out to the intersection with Ridgeback 3. Yet another fast downhill followed by the soul sucking little climbs on Ridgeback 1 and 2 back to the parking lot at Station Flats. New ride so ride time was longer than anticipated at 3 hrs 20 min.....890 m of climbing and 23 km of riding which meant for a bigger day. There was some serious pain on Ridgeback 's 1 & 2 to finish but there was definitely some fat burning happening.
There are some more new trails being built in the area including a new downhill that starts near the top of Special K that links to Ridgeback and likely removes some of the scary stuff at the top of Special K (Jimmy nods his head at this prospect) plus some new stuff on the MM side which are all contributing to a really super set of trails in the area.
There is also some new stuff also in the Cox/Jumping Pound area per Daniel which we will schedule sometime soon. Talk soon and get your butts out to ride cause I cannot chase Daniel around all summer on my own. His patience on the trails is noted and appreciated.
