A fun jaunt to Powderface last Thursday with Kai and Grayson in attendance. We had planned to do the old reliable Elbow Valley to Powderface short loop and back. We decided to alter that plan and find the new Powderface trail that replaces the horse trail up to the first Powderface summit. The trail was easy to find as it heads right into the trees not far above the meadow where Prairie Link heads right. It is a e-bike'ish trail as it is quite flat and smooth but steep with few hairpins to flatten it out. Bit of a grunt to the top for sure but ridable compared to the old horse trail we used to ride. This opens up the Powderface Ridge ride quite nicely for the traditional point to point to the end of Highway 66. Alternatively, you can do down Prairie Creek to the road and connect back to the short loop after a few kilometres on the road. We descended down the way we came up as we ran short of daylight.
We were rained out last week at Canmore so we will try again this week. Forecast is a mixture of sun and cloud from 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon with minimal rain forecast each hour (less than 1 mm). Let's meet at the Nordic Centre and do a loop there, conditions permitting, and we can hump it over to the trails over and around Quarry if we need to move.
9:15 meet time at the Nordic Centre and 9:30 start. Let us know if you are coming along.
