Hello everyone,

for over a year, I've been working on a MikeOS-based operating system called MichalOS. It's aimed to be more advanced on the inside, but simple and easy to use on the outside.

Here are some of the main features:
-Runs in 32-bit "unreal mode", up to 3 GB RAM addressable
-Has VESA graphics and mouse functions built into the kernel, no need to include a library into your programs
-Do you own a CRT? This OS has a screensaver!
-Uses a light custom font instead of the default BIOS font
-Has a self-updating clock in the top-right corner
-Customizable background, window and menu colors, screensaver delay...
-Much, much more...

Please report any bugs or maybe suggest future ideas!

Michal

Hi everyone,

First, thanks to Michal for his work on this. It looks awesome!

Secondly, the question may come up: why don't we merge this with
MikeOS? Or at least some of the features? I believe it's better that
MichalOS develops as its own project now, because:

* I don't have much time to work on MikeOS at the moment
* I think MikeOS is pretty complete as it is, as a very simple learning OS
* And ultimately, I want to be able to answer all questions about
MikeOS. I can do that at the moment, as I know the code inside-out,
but if I start adding lots of big new features I'll have to learn them
all in-depth, to really explain them :-)

So I've added a link to MichalOS in the News section of the website,
and Links at the bottom:

http://mikeos.sourceforge.net

Cheers,
Mike

Oh, and also Michal, you may want to announce it here to get some more
interest and possible contributors:

https://forum.osdev.org/viewforum.php?f=2

Bear in mind that some of the regulars on that forum sneer at small
learning projects written in assembly. They say they're not "real"
OSes because they're not written in C, have multitasking, are based on
the Unix design etc. Just ignore them :-) Or tell them that while
building a real aircraft is cool, sometimes it's fun to play with Lego
as well ;-)

Thanks a lot, Mike!

I might try posting this on OSDev, I got lots of useful information about the x86 architecture and OSes there ;-)
